Gerard Butler, Curtis Jackson aka 50 Cent, O’Shea Jackson jr aka Ice Cube’s son in a great looking bank robbery flick. Butler plays the leader of an overaggressive borderline corrupt police unit that breaks the rules to get results. Been a while since there was a film like this that I could say I was looking forward to.
Nothing in the trailer that makes it a ´standout´ - and I´ve seen every heist movie of the last 60 years
Butler is likeable. No one would ever confuse him with being a great actor, but he has a certain charisma about him that makes a lot of his movies watchable.
Man, I admit, I thought the dude was gonna be a star after "300". I guess the best thing you can actually say about him is that he's "serviceable", and would likely be better as a secondary character rather then a star. Maybe be the Scottish equivalent of Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Thought he was decent in the surf movie "Chasing Mavericks". They keep paying him though, so he keeps making these shitty action films.
Olympus Has Fallen and Law Abiding Citizen are two examples of Butler movies which are stupid.... but fun to watch. He's above average in bad ass type roles. I will say, if you've seen the movie "A Family Man" he actually did a pretty good acting job in that movie. He sure as Hell ain't Brando as an actor.... but he's not the worst we've ever seen either.
Finally got around to watching this and found it to be a good film. Most of the actors were pretty good and charismatic with Curtis Jackson being the weak link there. This was a very solid movie with a nice twist ending to boot. I don’t know many bank robbery movies but for me Heat and The Town are the standard bearers for that type of film and this one isn’t too far behind. It doesn’t have a strong rewatchability factor though. 6.5/10
This movie paraphrased HEAT dialogue and scenes the entire time. The entire opening scene was nearly a word by word rip off of the scene of Al Pacino analyzing the crime scene.
Hmmm... maybe I'll watch this tonight if it's available for stream on the fire stick. I don't mind watching it for free, but I sure as Hell wasn't gonna pay money for a movie that stars Butler and 50.
Watched this tonight. Correction: watched the first 60mins of this tonight because I was initially bored and realised it was everything I expected it to be: mediocre, pedestrian, indifferent, lacklustre, Heat-ish, "lb 4 lb probably loves it", etc... 5/10
Lol. Oh so now I’m the standard bearer for the guy who likes shit films? Well seeing as how I was appointed that title from the guy who likes maybe one movie a year I’d say “insert hand jerking emoji here”. Also weren’t you one of the guys who had the temerity to argue that Fast & Furious is a quality franchise while shitting on nearly every other one?
I watched it on your recommendation from this thread, punk! Seriously though, it drags. You can see all the nods and homages, but Gerard Butler and 50c?
Funny you mention that. It's precisely what I thought. And when Fake Schreiber "Yo Dawg My Tats, Mad Gainz Yo" pulled out the machine gun towards the end and opened up with it in the traffic jam........lifted straight out of Heat. Also the corny dialogue about "not going back to jail" etc etc...."Ayma die out here dawwwwwwwg". Film4, the terrestrial TV channel where I had the misfortune to see this shit, had HEAT up immediately next in the listings. So it was an obvious lift, right from the beginning.
And fat O'Shea?? He really looks like his father, a fat waddling "Hard Man" exterior to cover up his middle class fatness and softness.
Generous. 2/10 Overdrawn and overbearing "Wife-Husband-New-Boyfriend-Divorce Papers" bullshit scenes. "Don't touch me dawg". "Dawg ayma fuck you up". Fat Samoans grunting and making faces...because that's what scurred whitey buys right? Fucking garbage. 0/10, in fact.
