Some of the topics not involving Tyson were actually quite interesting to hear on that Rogan podcase including the one where Atlas talked about a promoter and all the officials, judges and refs and representatives of various boxing commissions sitting at one big table at a restaurant and having discussions the day before a boxing match.
In which sport could something like this ever happen outside of boxing?? LMAO

Many fighters did quit before the bell though. I mean Michael Spinks is better than many of Tyson's opponents who went the distance with Tyson in his prime. But he just died before he even made the walk to the ring. And he vanished immediately after that fight. I don't think Spinks at his best was inferior to guys like Douglas and Tucker and Green, etc.

Green was game but he couldn't break a paper bag.

"I went to this high school. Six hundred kids in the room, 700 kids, maybe 1,000. They had this big screen, giant, 10-by-10. They were showing the kids some of my fights because they didn’t know who I was. They just thought I was the black guy from The Hangover. They didn’t know who I was. This one guy, this little Mexican kid, said, ‘I think my grandfather told me about you.’ Never in my life am I going to forget that. You talk about a humbling experience." - Tyson

it's not like Atlas is saying something new and controversial though....it's the same stuff that every second boxing fan thinks

This is where I realize you never went to a boxing gym in your life. Go in any of them, and stop a sparring session cause you're tired and you'll be labeled a quitter. Quitting cause you're tired is quitting.

But then, Foreman pretty much salvaged his reputation in his second career.

    Man, shut the fuck up

Not being able to stand up within 10 seconds because you physically can't do it isn't quitting, it's being stopped, it's exhaustion

Foreman was physically finished, hurt, stopped ... he couldn't beat the count

He didn't quit. He didn't turn to the ref and say "ok I'm spent... stop the fight"... he kept right on punching while eating clean counters until finally he caught too many and got knocked out ... your hypothetical is idiotic because it has nothing in common with what actually happened in that fight

  11. I did 9 rounds straight, two weeks ago against 2 different guys and the frustration was the worst aspect of a) not always being able to land cleanly and b) being peppered by 2-3 shots in return.
The thought of quitting never entered my head though.

This is what most people who've never boxed/sparred before don't realize: hitting an opponent clean is really, really hard to do.

Again, it clearly shows that you have no experience boxing. Foreman clearly quit against Ali. No big deal, since he has shown subsequently that he could have the heart of a warrior, but it was lacking on this veru specific day

    No he didn't quit

    He got knocked out, incapacitated

Until X posted it, I'd never seen anybody accuse him of quitting in that fight

It's a ludicrous take ... Victor Ortiz quit against Maidana, that's quitting

There's degree in quitting, and it can be done a lot more subtly than by directly saying ''I quit''. Wlad pussy flopping to the canvas continually and making gay eyes at the ref is a perfect example of quitting subtly. While Foreman quitting was a lot less shamefull than that, it still obvious that he said ''Fuck it'' and simply didnt try his best to beat the count

You and your brother are the only people that think wald pussy quit against Brewster

It's so obvious that Foreman quit that the first time I've even seen it suggested was yesterday, 44 years after the fight

Every person with a minimum of intelligence inow wlad quit in that fight.

And the hell youre talking about, ton of people claim foreman quitted against ali

Only you and your brother say it

As for Foreman, show me examples ... I've been following the sport over 30 years and I've never heard or seen anybody saying Foreman quit in that fight

  18. I don´t know....leading up to that short barrage of punches, Foreman, although continuing to come forward, his arms looked like lead and when he did go down, he really was breathing heavily.
I wouldn´t say he quit as such, he just couldn´t get up as opposed to wouldn´t.

Physical exhaustion that no amount of "courage" can overcome in under 10 seconds = quitting

Unless you are totally unconscious, it means you quit

For shits and giggles I did a search for "Foreman quit" in general discussion and I found 4 results

One from Hex-One in 2011 about Yuri Foreman

Another from 2011 by Hitman referencing George leaving HBO

    And two from this thread

I mean everybody has been saying it for years!

Here's a question. Is it possible for a fighter to punch himself out? And in the event he does, is it quitting? Hypothetically?

I have also never heard anyone saying that Foreman quit.

There has been talks about his mental weakness, in the sense that he let Ali get inside his head and fought a stupid fight, wasting his energy, which led to his KO loss.

But I have honestly never heard anyone calling that a quit job
