Pointless ring antics and gimmicks

one of my pet peeves as a fan is watching fighters that have ring gimmicks/antics that do not advance their position in a fight. Sometimes these gimmicks actually fool casual fans into thinking the said fighter is supremely talented but anyone with a true eye for the sweet science can tell that they do nothing.

Shane Mosley was an example of this. He’d roll his gloves, flick his head around, switch stance occasionally, do some fancy pivoting but at the end of the day all of this wasted motion didn’t help him avoid punches or take command of the ring space or even help landing punches. They were just meaningless “fancy” moves and he didn’t end up outboxing anyone but resorted to winning fights by slugging away.

Zab Judah was another culprit....in fact his attempt to be flashy lead to him getting KTFO by Tszyu. For no reason Zab decided to move his head to appear flashy only to end up moving his head directly into the path of a right hand from Tszyu and the rest is history.

You see a guy like Lomachenko has flashy moves which serve a purpose, he pivots around his opponents and puts them out of position. A guy like Leonard has flash which has a purpose and so do guys like Hopkins and mayweather. However there are many fighters like Tank Davis and Crawford IMO that have meaningless antics and wasted motion.

Exactly....and fair enough, y'all have convinced me on Crawford...I was too hard on him. Broner is a great example of what I'm saying and yes some fighters switch just to switch, and it has no purpose.

As mentioned before, when Hagler switched it was for a purpose: Orthodox for slugging, Southpaw for boxing.
