I'm gonna give the nod to Robinson's check hook on Fullmer.

Either that or Foster's hook on Dick Tiger

    Both ridiculous shots

In each case guys with great chins out with a single shot

I give it to Robinson because was moving back and in one motion plants his feet and gets off the shot. He was an incredible offensive talent.

    It's a crazy shot

I liked Fullmer's recollection of seeing Robinson standing with his arms raised bouncing on his toes and thinking to himself that Robinson must be in fantastic condition to be doing exercises between rounds before his seconds told him Robinson had knocked him out

And that was a past prime Robinson. It’s a shame that most of his fights at welterweight weren’t filmed.

Hearns KO shot of Duran comes to mind.

And that first right hand from Jackson that had Norris out on his feet before the following barrage finished him.

  7. So why don't either of you cretins post the Youtube clips instead of discussing them like a pair of old fools.

If REED Isn't Mistaken, Fullmer Hadn't Been KO'ed Before OR After That Either...Which Makes the Shit That Much MORE Impressive...

    Yup!

In his last fight he was stopped against Dick Tiger but it was his corner stopping it, he wasn't knocked down

You got at least a half dozen single shot KOs by the 3 time champ randall bailey to choose from and you wanna hype these old timers

    The nostalgia is strong here

Ike upperhook on Byrd. That shit was scary. And don't say anything about byrd getting up. Yes his physical self got up but trust me byrd was running from freddy kruger the second the rape hookercut landed. Sounded like a shot gun blast.

I cannot pick a winner so I'd say it's Robinson vs Fullmer and Marciano vs Walcott.

You could just say Robinson-Fullmer is the greatest left hook KO and Marciano-Walcott is the greatest right hand KO. I'd actually agree with both.

I'd give the not to Hearns-Duran. It was just so effortless, and brutal

And also seeing Duran take a nose dive never gets old

Bit odd that Marciano never got a mention prior in the thread.

13th round, and having been floored and staggered early, cut and way behind........the punch barely travelled a half-foot.

Considering he had none of the physical talent of Ray Robinson, it was a great punch.

Unlike Fullmer, Walcott made no attempt to get up. He just collapsed more. The guy was asleep.

The reason I excluded it is because Hearns was built by God to beat Duran, and had softened him up in the opening round, was the bigger faster man etc.

But Walcott was made to befuddle Marciano just as Fullmer was made to bullrush Robinson.

Both Marciano and Robinson solved the riddle.......with one shot. I'd hazard a bet too that both Fullmer and Walcott weighed more than Robinson and Marciano respectively.

Marciano-Walcott gets PLENTY of attention and acclaim, Irish.

It's universally considered one of the great KO's in boxing history, and it is. It's not some obscure KO.

Every kid learning to throw a left hook needs to watch this.

You can see Walcott get his back and thigh right into it.

The back and the thigh are the plunger and the poison. The fist is merely the needle of the hypodermic.

Pick the body shot with the elbow and forearm, come out of the defensive crouch and use the leverage to drive your own counter-hook.

    Masterful shit.

Still more impressive to me to KO Fullmer or Tiger who had never been KOd with single shots than to KO Walcott who had been KOd before

The topic is greatest single KO shot of all time... it's going to be extremely exclusive (outside of bringing up the ridiculous example of Ibeabuchi against stupid face Byrd which clearly has no business being mentioned in a thread like this because it's NOT A FUCKING SINGLE SHOT KO)

Walcott was a master, one of my favourites.

All of the punches mentioned above are worthy candidates. I'd probably have to give it to Robinson as well.

Of all the 4 punches that most {sensible} people would lump for, I think Robinsons was technically the best. He was moving back, stopped, side-stepped and fired in one motion in a fraction of a second.

Marcianos was the most brutal........13th round late power having been on the mat and facing a guy who KNEW how to negotiate the situation. Walcott was so unconscious he was going over on his ankle as he sank to the canvas. HE BROKE HIS LEG.

Hearns.....was already kicking the shit out of the guy, who was smaller......2nd round, no fatigue, full tank, full power. Set it up with a flailing jab to the body a la Rangefinder so that's a minor knock against him. Ray Robinson just threw his off the cuff, literally off the rotator cuff with no distance finder. Let the man walk onto it.

Tiger......had come up from 160.....a 15lb climb. And Foster was a noted bomber, something Robinson wasn't.

I still say it's between Ray and Marciano.

A punch that doesn't get nearly enough credit is the right hand Rodrigo Valdez KO'd Bennie Briscoe with. I dunno if there's a middleweight in history who could have taken that shot... Briscoe was out before he hit the ground.

Yes but he had moved up if you know what I mean, from middleweight.

I always liked the Foster-Quarry KO more than Foster-Tiger. Honest to God, it looked like poor Quarry was dead.

There's not a light heavy in history who could have taken the left hook landed on Quarry and survived.

Me too, but I figured the Tiger KO would rank more because he was such a great fighter whereas Mike Quarry was just a solid pro contender... but aesthetically it's about as "holy fuck!" a KO as possible

Foster himself was worried that Quarry was out like that and it's not like he ever went easy on anybody... this is a guy who after practically killing Vicente Rondon said "I didn't get him as good as I wanted to. I wanted it to go 15 so I could beat him bad. I hate him and I hate the WBA." ... yet the KO of Quarry was so brutal that he was scared for Quarry's well-being
