The following five perimeter players had their primes cut short by injuries, but who was the biggest waste of talent as a result?

    Penny Hardaway
    Grant Hill
    T-Mac
    Brandon Roy
    Derrick Rose

I'd say T-Mac, because he legitimately had the talent to be the second greatest shooting guard behind Jordan, if his back hadn't failed him and if he had the drive to be great... which I dunno if he did.

McGrady was more talented than Kobe, but Kobe just seemed to want greatness more and was obsessed with basketball in a way no one else was.

Runner up I'd say Penny Hardaway. Penny could have, and should have gone down as a top 3 all time point guard. He had the potential to be that good. He hadn't even reached his peak when he fucked his knee up.

Very possibly, because I think he had more killer instinct and drive than McGrady.

It's not even debatable though that McGrady was the most talented player on this list, and he also peaked higher than the rest.

Who's the weakest link on the list?

Brandon Roy had the smoothest game of anybody of the list.... but he was the least athletic of the five. Hardaway, McGrady, Rose, and Hill all had freakish athletic ability.

Rose had by the far the lowest IQ of anybody on the list.

I loved Grant Hill, but I somewhat question his mentality. To me, he was an alpha talent with a beta mentality.

Penny was 100% an alpha, look further than the 97 playoffs for proof. Single handedly took the Heat to the decisive game 5.

What I love in Airplane is how he gradually transitions into Kareem until finally he has only his suit top but is wearing his trademark goggles, Lakers shorts, knee pads, sneakers etc when they drag him from the cockpit ... there's so much of that in that film, small jokes inside of larger jokes... brilliant

    Shut it, cunt.

Yes, I agree...although I re-watched Airplane! a few months ago and though I enjoyed it, it does tend to wear a bit.
Did you ever see The Big Bus from 1976 which was like an earlier version of what became Airplane! ?

McGrady has always been overrated. Grant Hill started off with 6 straight all star appearances but never was a killer scorer like others.

Penny would be my choice. He was an instant killer and was a Magic Johnson type PG which we still haven't seen again.

Derrick Rose would be next IMO. Could and should have been the one to stop Lecon in the East.

Honorable mention to Bobby Hurley. He was carving up the dream team and doing well in the league before that dumb fuck crashed into him.

Yeah, Airplane was like a Mad magazine of that time: there were even funnier jokes in the background. I love that film.

Even though D-Rose won an MVP, I don’t think his ceiling was as high as the others (barring Roy.)

It had become more of a guard/perimeter oriented league by 2011 than when Penny peaked around 95-96, or when Hill did in the mid to late 90s. I would say T-Mac had the highest ceiling, then Hill, then Penny. Hill had more years as an elite player than Penny before the injuries screwed him up, maybe Penny would have improved slightly. I think the gap was pretty close.

Hill was somewhat like a Pippen, not as great of a defender, but a better scorer and playmaker. Penny was a tall PG. Not the passer Magic was (who was?), but he was a nightmare for smaller guards to cover and had a good post game for a young PG.

Penny would have only improved slightly? Dude's prime ended in his fifth season, in the 97-98 season.

Without injuries, Penny peaks somewhere in the early 00s, and his peak would have been anazing.

Penny was more talented than Hill.
