Breaking Bad is a good show but it isn't even close to The Wire

    The Wire:
´Though white people have a natural aversion to television, there are some exceptions. For white people to like a TV show it helps if it is: critically acclaimed, low-rated, shown on premium cable, and available as a DVD box set.
The latter is important so that white people can order it from Netflix and tell their friends “they are really into <INSERT SERIES HERE> and I watched ten episodes in a row in the weekend. I’m almost caught up.”
If you attempt to talk about an episode they have not seen yet, they will scream and cover their ears. In white culture, giving away information about a film or TV series is considered as rude as spitting on your mothers grave. It is an unforgivable offense.
Recent series that have fallen into this category include The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, and most recently The Wire.

For the past three years, whenever you say “The Wire” white people are required to respond by saying “it’s the best show on television.” Try it the next time you see a white person! Though now they might say “it WAS the best show on television.”

So why do they love it so much? It all comes down to authenticity. A long time ago, someone started a rumor that when The Wire is on TV, actual police wires go quiet because all the dealers are watching the show. Though this is not true, it seems plausible enough to white people and has imbued the show with the needed authenticity to be deemed acceptable.
The popularity of this show among white people has create a unique opportunity for personal gain.
If you need to impress a white person, tell them you are from Baltimore. They will immediately ask you about The Wire and how accurate it is. You should confirm that it is “like a documentary of the streets,” the white person will then slowly shake their head and say “man” or “wow.”
You will be seen in an entirely new light.

If you are not from Baltimore but the white person you are talking to is, they might start asking you a lot of questions. In this situation, you should just say you left when you were young but you still have a lot of cousins there but you don’t like to go back to visit. This will remove all doubts and they can go back to telling you about how John from Accounting needs to “stop snitching” about their two hour lunch breaks.´

I saw it after all the hype, I don't even watch much TV since YouTube came on the scene. It's just a really good show. Great writing, great characters, has it all. Breaking Bad is really good but it got a bit silly after a while. Didn't finish it.

Most TV shows are like that: they start off really strong and fade about 2/3 the way through.
    Especially Netflix series´ of late.

Im not saying they´re shit, but they really don´t deserve the mega-praise and 8/10 or 5-star reviews that ALL TV shows seem to get now.

I do agree with this, I mean high quality drama or comedy is really hard to maintain. The Wire does that for me though and I haven't even finished it yet (only started watching this year). There's just so much depth it's ridiculous, so many intricate things going on, love it, and the standard hasn't dropped.

I got through Series one about 10 years ago when it first came out on Box-Set: I was sick with flu at the time and decided I wasnt going anywhere so I stayed in bed, jerking off to porn, sleeping and watching The Wire.
It was a tough watch but at about episode 9 it all came together: the plot, the characters, everything and I really enjoyed it.

Season 2 wasnt as good but I got through it.

Black coworkers got me to watch The Wire, actually. Didn't see it until years after the series was over. They kept quoting the show and telling me I had to see it. Finally I gave in and watched it. Ludicrous how good it was. I loved every season.

Be nice if Omar knifed mustard up his asshole and left him to bleed out, screaming in agony

    Nope.
The only reason I watched Season 1 and 2 is because they were Christmas gifts for my brother so after they arrived, I took the selophane cover off each DVD boxset, watched them and then re-wrapped them in time for Christmas Eve.

Omar is such an awesome character. Surely the most badass battyboy on television ever. I like Marlo, that dude is just cold as fuck. Snoop is the scariest bird I've ever seen on TV. Michael is good too, fuck man they're all good. Even the minor characters have an absurd amount of depth to them.

The Wire and The Sopranos are two best serial shows of all time.

Best TV show of all time period is The Twilight Zone... by leaps and fucking bounds.

As for Breaking Bad, ehhhh... it was just mehhhhh imo.

The early seasons of Dexter were fucking awesome, and take a steaming hot shit on BB.

But from what I hear, Dexter eventually jumped the shark.

Yeah, I always got the sense that Breaking Bad was overrated.

It turned shit beginning in Season 3, but Seasons 1 & 2 of House of Cards were SUPERB. Looked like it was gonna be an all time great show.. then it went off a cliff.

HOC is the Donald Curry of shows. Looked headed towards greatness then fell apart and was never good again.

I liked both versions of HoC, but never got round to finishing either. Shame the US version went downhill.

The American HOC went downhill as soon as Frank Underwood took over the Presidency, which was Season 3.

His rise to capturing the Presidency in the first 2 seasons, and all the people he fucked over/ruined/killed to get there was great to watch and well done. But the showrunners clearly ran outta ideas as soon as Underwood ascended to the top.

In hindsight, I wish it had only been 2 seasons long, but it was far and away Netflix's highest rated show at the time, so obviously they weren't gonna cancel it.

Don't group The Wire with Breaking Bad.

It's like comparing Jose Napoles and Tim Bradley.
