Can’t see this doing have a million.

At best, 400 K and even that is a stretch I think.

This makes zero sense. For one, if Fury considered this a cash out he woulda stayed fat..it's not like he has to make a weight.

Two, the REAL money is in fighting AJ in the UK, not fighting Wilder for what's chump change by comparison. If Fury wanted a true cash out he woulda fought AJ.

Fury thinks he can beat Wilder and he's in shape.

    Stupid ass post.

Obviously if this were right after the Wlad fight it would be bigger but the American audience doesn’t really remember Fury that well.

Wouldn't be surprised if it does more sales in the UK among people staying up to 5am

I think it would if it were on Sky Box Office, being on BT Sport PPV might bring the numbers down though.

I'd love to see this thing but I think my days of staying up til dawn watching boxing are over. Hopefully I can watch it with my scrambled eggs on YouTube

The American public didn't know him after the Klit fight either. You're assuming the American public even knew Wald.... but they didn't.

The fact is.... Tyson, Holyfield, and Lewis are still the three names the American public knows when it comes to heavyweights. They have no fuckin clue who Wilder, Fury, and AJ are.

Even Lewis isn't on the recognition level of Holyfield, never mind Tyson

Tyson is the last boxer that everybody in America knew

Stars will be out — and seeking prime seating — for Fury-Wilder fight at Staples Center

Lonzo Ball didn't get an invite

I'm content with not ordering it. The undercard is too abysmal. I'll forgive a terrible undercard only in rare situations where it's an absolute can't miss matchup (like Spence-Crawford).

But the heavyweights aren't compelling enough for me to make an exception.

Had they delivered the undercard that was initially discussed, Gary Russell vs Santa Cruz and Gervonta Davis vs Mares, then I woulda bought it.

True, but Lewis was a helluva lot more popular in the US than Wilder, Fury, AJ.

To be fair, Cdogg, there aren't a whole lotta athletes in any sport who are known to EVERYBODY in the US.

Lebron is by leaps and bounds the most famous current athlete in the US. Behind Lebron, it's Tom Brady.

Outside of Lebron/Brady and a few others, we've began to see the demise of the true superstar athlete the way it once was.

Only a percentage of Americans would recognize a current MLB star, for instance.

In boxing's defense, Floyd is probably the third most recognizable US athlete behind Lebron and Brady.

Durant would be #3 on the list but he was a beta until last night's performance against Toronto

Durant's not even the biggest star on his team.

Curry is easily the second biggest mainstream name in the NBA behind Lebron.

Curry is more famous than Durant imo.

    I beat you to it.

Durant never became a true mainstream star, tbh.

Certainly not compared to a Lebron or Kobe.

And people can say what they want about him, but Iverson was a megastar in the 00s.

This is true. The famous people now are Instagram celebrities

    In quality or popularity?

Strictly in popularity.... is Durant is even a bigger mainstream name than Harden?

Lebron and Curry are the two biggest stars in the league.... then there's a sizable gap after Curry as to who's third.

People have become so used to celebrities, and are so overexposed to them via social media... that it's just not a big deal anymore. There's so many "celebrities", and it's so easy to become one, that it doesn't carry as much weight as it did in the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

In America, they'll probably never again be an athlete as famous as Jordan or Tyson. It's just a different world now.

There aren't a whole lot of US athletes more famous than Floyd.

Durant is a tad better in overall ability, Curry is obviously the more liked player.

Harden switching teams doesn't elicit as much reaction that Durant does, so Durant is a bigger name

Nobody is on the Tyson-Ali level in terms of fame but the closest today would be Mayweather, Pacquiao and De La Hoya.

I'm purely talking about name recognition.

When Harden came to the Rockets from OKC, he was totally unknown to everybody besides hardcore NBA fans. He became a star WITH Houston.

Harden switching teams at THIS POINT would elicit as much reaction as KD.

Now, historically speaking, do I think Harden is as good as KD? Hell no! KD's both a more reliable scorer and a far better defender. Harden's a better playmaker that's about it.

And better flopper. Once his career in the NBA is over he can make a run at MLS.
