"You join a list of heavyweight champs from Alabama along with Holyfield.."

"Tyson had trouble with taller guys.... like Trevor Berbick..."

Please.... please... stick to talking the NFL.

X you always complain boxing does not get the publicity it should. Now you're telling them not to talk about boxing.

I find it frustrating too. But the solution is not to stick to NFL. The solution, take some fucking time to learn about boxing

I remember when women only used to watch De La Hoya's boxing matches and had no interest in the sport. Just like a lot of people only used to watch Tyson's fights but had no interest in boxing. It's all good. The only way to really bring viewers in is by creating excitement. Exciting fights bring the masses. Charismatic and exciting athletes make people pay attention. That's why Fury/Wilder and Joshua/Klitschko fights are so important. They bring attention and get people talking. But who really wants to watch any sport for the sake of watching? Most sports are boring as f*ck.

Pfft! You're a typical beer guzzling, pack a day smoking, no-cumming NFL fanatic. I can smell it all the way from here.

I agree, but the NFL pays his bills... he has to be informed about it. Boxing does not pay his bills so unless you have a natural like for the sport theres no incentive to learn.

Screamin A Smith at least likes and appreciates the sport. I just wish he didnt pretend to be an expert, but he stopped pretending now that he has Max to check him on his inaccuracies.

Good post. If it doesn't pay our bills then why bother learning it? Who cares about boxing other than the really big fights? That's the way most sports are. People only watch the Superbowl including women. Most people only watch tennis if Federer or Nadal are playing. Most people only watch boxing if Mayweather is fighting. Most people only watch MMA if McGregor is fighting.

I don't watch the US stations, I don't actually watch the UK ones either, unless it comes up on my recommendations on YouTube. Smith is as casual as can be (from what I've seen anyway), but I like that he's deferring more to Kellerman now.

Kellerman thinks he knows everything about boxing. Guy's an encyclopedia who pulls up historical sh*t from the 1700s that nobody has a clue about when he goes off on a tangent during discussions to show off his boxing acumen. He hardly ever had an accurate prediction despite all that knowledge. LOL

I think that's a little too harsh but there's some truth to it... Kellerman can probably rattle off every guy that Abe Attell defended against but he's had some puzzling takes over the years and seemed unable to notice that Andre Berto was a terrible boxer ... he tends to confuse speed with skill

Kellerman would score 100/100 on a boxing history exam for sure. He knows everything written in the books. But he doesn't have much of an idea about the finer aspects of boxing. Basically what you see right in front of you when two boxers are in the ring competing and how each one is trying to implement their gameplan. Kellerman doesn't know much about that. Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones are a lot better in describing the in-ring details for the viewers.

Definitely but I wonder how much is purely his own view and how much is company narrative. He was shilling heavy with HBO. Made even Larry Merchant's biggest detractors miss him.

Nah, Kellerman isnt bad about breaking down specific aspects about strategy. He actually does that quite well. Max KNOWS boxing, he really does... the only negative is that he became a corporate shill and a cheerleader.

We all miss the FNF version of Max.

I'd venture to say the guy on TV with by far the greatest depth of knowledge on the sport is Steve Farhood.

I quite like Kellerman, we don't see him as much as you guys but like you said, he knows his shit. I wasn't aware of the whole company shill thing but from what I've seen I really like the guys enthusiasm, it's infectious.

He's just had some really bad takes though... he was a Zab Judah fanatic and hyped the fuck of Berto

First time I saw Berto on HBO, Kellerman was going on and on about his skills... in about three minutes I ascertained Berto had no skills at all but threw fast, mindless combinations... I know you've got a network to work for but you're specifically stating this guy is the next big thing, something special, praising his boxing ability... I expect a guy who makes his living watching boxers to be able to spot a guy that can't box well... I'm at home watching it and nobody's paying me for my opinion and I can see it as plain as day

It started off small. Little things like hyping fighters or exaggerating their qualities. OK, they're fighting on your network you kind of have to. That's a whole different story from building a narrative. Kellerman's commentary reached a new low during Golovkin-Alvarez 2.

He’s a wigger. He likes the idea of boxing proving blacks have more rhythm and natural talent more than actual black boxers do.

Max doesn’t know shit. He’s just a white version of a casual black boxing fan.

Yeah he's a f*cktard. He seems like a faggot too. I remember he was getting horny over Hasim Rahman a few times the way he was riding Rahman's jock. Kellerman is the type of guy at a party that wants to hang out with the blacks and try to be cool and show off to everyone around him how cool he is because he hangs out with blacks.
