Puerto Rock, clearly talking about natural talent/genetics stated the old saying that great punchers are born, not made

Although since this is a boxing site and it should stand to reason that all of us understand that fighters train and practice to improve their skills, fuckface of Montreal decided per usual to start an argument by attacking an assertion that nobody, including puerto rock ever made ... the assertion (again not stated by anybody in the first place) was basically "you're born with punching power and can never improve it even with training"... that's the made up thing JOM is arguing against. A thing nobody said in the first place.

To make it worse, this contrary position was exaggerated further by Boss coming to the conclusion that Pauline Malignaggi made a conscious decision to not only lack punching power but also never made any effort to improve it (ridiculous on its face; boxers train for a reason. To get in shape and to improve their skills as much as they can)

JOM made up something to be pissy about and BOSS seems to think Malignaggi could've just decided to be Julian Jackson when he started (newsflash: every fighter wants to be able to punch hard)

My position is very straightforward and no one has yet put forward a good argument against it:
1) Genetics determine base strengths and weaknesses in athletes
2) Proper practicing and technical development can maximize the physical potential of athletes

In other words, hard practice and sound technique will get an athlete to reach his/her full potential but when it comes to power, Earnie Shavers potential is vastly higher than Muhammad Ali's just as when it comes to speed Ali's is vastly superior to Shavers'... there isn't a training regimen and techniques that will make Ali punch as hard as Shavers and nothing that will make Shavers as fast as Ali. If there was, neither guy would be exceptional
