I was really really hoping they would keep him on. United are a sacking club now. Zidane won't do fuck all. His thing at Real was a local fluke.
At least they were real about it. When I was a kid, having a bike was a real thing. A real aspiration. Not having one wrecked your Summer. Nowadays it's some cunt cycling 1.5 miles to work on a £2000 Brompton telling you he just saved the planet.
IF this is true then nothing will change. Ed Woodward is useless. He is worse than Rick Parry. Per Gary Neville...... "The moment earlier on in the season where it was clear the board decided that they didn’t want to back a couple of José Mourinho’s signings, at that point you are finished as a manager. In the summer the club wanted to sign one or two centre-backs. Those centre-backs were identified and the club obviously have the ability and the right to say no to those signings if they don’t feel it’s right, but you have to understand the consequence. That once you undermine a manager or don’t agree with his signings and you’re going against them – maybe for the right reasons from a club point of view – but if you’re a manager, particularly of the sort of stature of José Mourinho, you’re on a collision course. What we’ve seen over the last three or four months is it play out in public.”
Managing any big club comes with a lot of pressure but this isn't Real Madrid where everyone from the board to the fans expect the team to win absolutely everything there is to be won every year. Expectations of course will be high, but more reasonable. The club has been a mess for a while and hiring that malcontent whiner for a manager was the worst possible move. I think simply playing positive football even if it doesn't always immediately yield results will be a breath of fresh air.
I could win those trophies Zidane won with that team Put Zidane in charge of Coventry City and see what he does
Citeh-Schalke - Citeh are very good going forward and will be tough to cope with, but if you're not afraid of them and are patient and have pace and power up front, you can cause them problems. Chelski did not long ago and Lyon have too. I haven't seen Schalke at all this season so I don't know what weapons they have, but on paper, Citeh should go through. Atl Madrid-Juve - Agree that this is a tough one to call, but any team with Ronaldo in it is going to be strongly fancied to do well. Expecting two close games but Juve to qualify. Man Utd-PSG - God knows who United will bring in but now that Jose's gone, a weight will be lifted off the United players' shoulders and that can only be a good thing. Any defense is going to have a difficult time against Cavani, Mbappe and Neymar, especially this Man Utd defense. It has to be PSG to go through. Spurs-Dortmund - I really like Poch and want him to win something. I fancy their chances to get the better of Dortmund and go through, but in terms of winning the champions league? It's going to be extremely difficult for them. Lyon-Barca - Agreed, no explanation needed. Roma-Porto - No idea in all honesty, but on form, I'd go for Porto. Ajax-Real Madrid - Real Madrid have struggled this season. Mixed bag of results. No real consistency at all. Ajax are going well and are confident but even though it's very tempting to go with them, it's Real Madrid and the Champions League... Liverpool-Bayern - It's hard to pick any team over Liverpool right now. Everything is going their way. Their defense, their attack, their confidence...everything. It all just feels like it's clicked this season. If their players stay injury free, they can win this. Anyone tempted to back them to do the double?
Agreed. Jose is all about results even if that means his brand of football is not good to watch. Well, it's been painful to watch. His style of play lacks excitement and aren't Man Utd all about excitement? It clearly has had an impact on the players and the fans too. They have some talented players but they definitely need to bring in more, especially defenders and a quality midfielder with a good eye for a pass.
Jose was 2/1 to be next boss to be sacked when I last checked Sky Bet. Damn, I was so tempted to stick £20 on that. Puel next in line at 7/4 currently.
Terrible fit all around. A club with the kind of fanbase and history is only going to accept so many excuses and whining. Playing anti-football isn't going to help matters either. He did well at Chelshit because it's a shit club with shit fans and a rich owner but even they got fatigued by his garbage. My guess is he goes back to Inter in a year or so. There was also some speculation of him taking the Portugal national team job. I would like to see that. He has no room to complain about not getting the players he wants wealthy owners to purchase.
Solskjaer? This seems like a desperate move in all honesty. The hope is that he can inject positivity and confidence all round. He may be able to do that, but what happens if the team do start to play more attractive football that is pleasing to the eye but results continue to not improve? Surely the blame then will lie solely with the players? Do the club want Solskjaer to bring players in next month? You'd be concerned because he made poor signings at Cardiff and got them relegated. He only lasted like 10 months. Personally, I think Solskjaer should work with what he's got from now until the end of the season and a ruthless approach must then be taken to get rid of those who are not up the task and keep those who are. Then you communicate with whoever comes in after him and let the new manager decide what he thinks is best to do, but you cannot keep giving the likes of Pogba and Lukaku a chance if they keep underperforming. Who knows, this might be a perfect fit, but again, based on what Solskjaer did at Cardiff, you can't be too confident and then you question United's decision to bring him in after Jose. It's all a mess there right now at Old Trafford.
I genuinely don't think United fans will mind a similar run of results if they play good football. They know that bar the CL there's nothing to play for, especially in the league, they're too far behind. They just want to get through the rest of the season with a bit of dignity, and they know Solksjaer is only a caretaker anyway.
agSLICED. They're not getting the results anyway so playing entertaining football will be better than the status quo. And like you say end the season with some dignity and create some optimism for next year. Even if they got a permanent manager they wanted tomorrow I don't think they'd be making a bunch of moves in the January window anyway. Maybe they'll more be looking to sell and have a some more funds to work with in the summer.
Apparently they've brought ronnie Whelan back in, who was a key part of the coaching staff right thru the Ferguson era. You can never tell how significant these behind the scenes figures are, maybe he'll make an I.pact

What's extra shitty for United is they overpaid for most of their players. If they put everyone on the squad up for sale the only guy they could get more money for then what they paid is De Gea and they certainly don't want to lose him. If you're one of the other big clubs, Barca, Real, Bayern, Juve etc. is there anybody in that team you would even want? (let alone pay a premium for)
A lot of clubs would take Lukaku as well but not for £75m so they either have to cut their losses or make it work. Then you have Alexis Sanchez. Terrible season and now a bad injury. To top it off he's got an enormous salary. Might even be the highest in the Premier league. Don't think anybody is going to take that gamble.
If the rumours about United's recruitment being done completely over mourinhos head are true you might almost feel a bit sorry for him - they don't have the players to compete, and no man management or tactical changes can make that fact untrue
