Opinions based on last night? I think he needs a bit more polish and to settle down a bit, but the talent is definitely there. He has speed and power that can't be taught. Between Lopez, Haney, and Vergil Ortiz, those are three red hot prospects who aren't even 21 yet.
REED Was Very Impressed. Lopez MESHES Fundamentals and Unorthodoxy VERY Well. In a Way, He’s a More Responsible, More Technically Profecient Version of Prince Naseem. REED
He's talented. I'd like to see him mature a bit, though. Liked the not so subtle shot he threw at Verdejo. Lol
It's on ESPN+, so I'll be passing on watching it. Things are gonna get very interesting next year, because Golden Boy wants to push Ryan Garcia into a title shot next year at 135, and Top Rank also wants to get Lopez a title shot next year, although Lopez is outgrowing 135 already, so a move to 140 might be on the horizon. You think it would be premature to throw Lopez in with Hooker next year?
I think Lopez would beat the hell outta hooker Though it would be an interesting test If hooker survived the early onslaught
We don't know what kinda chin Teofimo has yet, and REED's boy does have pretty good pop in the right hand. He PROBABLY would beat the Hell outta Hooker though.... if not right now, then by the summer. But until we know about his chin, we can't be certain.
The Winner of Commey-Chaniev is the More Logical Target... Will Be Interesting to See if Top Rank Pushes for Loma's 3rd Title @ '35 or Teofimo's 1st... REED
lopez and his father have already been begging top rank for the lomachenko fight, allegedly. seems like a no win situation for lomachenko though. not a big money fight. vs a very talented and inexperienced kid. where as for lopez, its a chance to explode onto the scene even in a loss. and even if its a decisive loss, lomachenko aint the type of hitter to totally ruin and derail the guys career.
Yeah, Lopez is a horrible opponent for Loma right now. A total lose-lose. Best case scenario for Loma, he dominates Lopez, and people will just say the kid was still green. Lopez is the most dangerous opponent for Loma in the division. That much is very apparent. But again, Lopez is a big boy at 135. His real future is gonna be at 140.
Lopez is very very good, but I want to see how he does against a good inside guy with power. Seem very open
Loma has yet to set the world on fire at 135. The Linares and Pedraza performances were not overly impressive. Teofimo would smoke both those guys. On size alone, Lopez might be too much for Loma... if not NOW, by the end of this year
Lomachenko would probably beat the kid right now but it wouldnt be a career ruining type fight so there is no reason for lopez's team not to take it
Watching Lopez celebration, he seems like a scummy bully, the sort who would probably fold mentally once he spent a few rounds being smacked in the face by somebody he couldn't hit back. If I was Lomachenko, I'd ask for the fight now.
You cant tell about a guy's heart based on stuff like that. Leonard and Ali both taunted and showboated, and both turned out to be pitbulls when pushed. And no, no, no, I'm not comparing Lopez to either of those two, just making a point that his showmanship is no indication of what kinda heart he has. And yes, it's ib Loma's best interest to ask for the fight NOW. Cause in two years, it's a fight a doubt he wins
Bit of an understatement. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these "officials" and "cornermen" are paid off to allow up-and-comers get highlight reel KO's{and therefore $$$ from the networks}
Magdalenno was stopped by light punching Flanagan for Christ sake. This fight had highlight real KO written on it from the moment it was signed.
I don't mind the dance and the back flip, but him going over to taunt the fallen magdaleno was scummy as fuck. The only reason I could see it being acceptable is if there was bad blood before the fight
a lot had to happen for it to get to the point of the KO. poor job by magdalenos corner lettting him come out for the last round, and then you had the ref taking a siesta several feet away from the fighters when the last hook landed on an already incapacitated fighter
