11 years ago in a couple of weeks.
Haven’t watched this fight in probably 8-10 years, but revisited it this evening.

Both these guys, at that point,.although they were shells of their former selves,..would be dominant champs today.

Either one of these guys at this point , would’ve beaten GGG or Canelo in either one’s prime

    Agreed.

Trinidad wasn’t at his absolute peak at 160 but he was still a damn good fighter and very likely would reign in that division today.

Jones it goes without saying would dominate from 160 through 175 and even 190.

Wait... is he saying those guys in the state they were in during that fight would beat the best GGG or the best Canelo?

I’d take that Roy over Canelo. No doubt.

Exactly. Even prime for prime I wouldn't pick Tito over them but it would be a plausible pick. But picking that version of Tito indeed is AIDS worthy

I wouldn't a fat retired Tito over Canelo unless it's an illegal wraps fight

That Roy lapsed into a coma every time he was hit with a clean shot

By solid light heavies. Canelo is a light heavy but I don’t think he’d be that strong or effective there. Plus he’s an Oompa Loompa. He’d have a hard time timing even an old Roy with his stubby arms.

Golovkin beats the fuck out of Trinidad at 160

Golovkin is too slow and there to be hit. He’s got a good chin but you saw how measured he can get when his opponent has power and the speed to counter him. If he gets cautious and reluctant against Tito he gets fucked up.

GGG is more solid that Tito in a lot of ways but it’s Tito’s explosiveness and counter punching that makes him really dangerous and GGG is right there.

I don’t think Tito was quite as explosive or had quite the motor at 160 as at lower weights, but he’d handle GGG.

Trinidad vs Golovkin prime for prime is a war. Golovkin should be favored.

But I’d take Trinidad over the current Golovkin.

It’s easy to think of Tito as a big, stalking destroyer type but it was his athleticism and explosiveness that really set him apart. If you actually saw Tito in with guys like Spence and GGG I think you’d be surprised by the difference in speed. Not just hand speed but how much quicker and more agile he was than those guys. And prime GGG is about the same size as Tito was at jr middle.

Trinidad isn’t someone I think of as an athletic type of fighter, but I think his hand speed was underrated. He had deceptively fast punches. Especially when he put them together in combination.

His footwork wasn’t the greatest, but interestingly enough he had excellent distance control to get maximum leverage on his punches.

I don't see it. Not anymore.

Golovkin has a really good chin, but he's proven that against guys with firepower, Jacobs and Canelo, that his aggression can be tamed.

I'm gonna make REED really proud with this one, but we severely overrated Golov's worth as a fighter.

I'd favor the Joppy version of Tito over him. Just a better fighter.

Golovkin would kill Joppy, too ... Joppy was nothing and he stood right in front of the guy with his hands down like a fucking imbecile

trinidad cant/wont fight like jacobs did or alvarez did in either fight. he's right there to be hit and it would be a fire fight vs a bigger, tougher man. golovkin would also be able to outjab him. even if you put the best possible trinidad in against a 36 year old golovkin vs the alvarez rematch Id favor golovkin.

Tito had “hands”. His feet might have been clumsy but once he got them set he wasn’t just a hard puncher, he was really quick, really aware and really coordinated in his offense. His footwork was clumsy but compared to guys like GGG and Spence his feet are much faster.

GGG isn’t going to fight like DLH and Hopkins

He’s right there to be hit as well and when he gets hit back his energy changes. Golovkins not much bigger than Tito either. GGG wasn’t a massive yet trim MW like Hopkins.

GGG’s jab is the big problem but he has to follow up on it because Tito was a Terminator that didn’t get discouraged.

In the second fight, Canelo stood right in front of Golovkin and took the fight to him. I thought he lost but he wasn’t doing any jabbing, moving, slipping or sliding.

I think a pre-Hopkins version of Trinidad could do better.

alvarez was making golovkin miss while in the pocket. trinidad wouldnt do that type of shit. and this is vs a 36 year old golovkin. trinidad was getting shut out by ronald wright when he was in his early 30s.

Trinidad would make him miss and crack his ass with bombs. If you watch a highlight reel of Tito it’s mostly him forcing exchanges and knocking guys silly with counter punches.

Trinidad’s prime was long and accomplished enough that bringing up his age in regular people years is silly. He was an active world champ through three presidential administrations.

He was clearly shit in his comeback. He had Frankenstein legs against Mayorga.
