Sounds like it. Since they won't provide copies one other option (if they allow it) would be to record it directly off the screen via some form of video recorder. It would of course be terrible quality but at least something you could remove from the premises and transfer it.
Well they are the BFI, an actual Institute, so I should hope they employ people with a personal touch, and it seems they do. Fuck this.......there has to be a way. I think I will email Bunce now.
Are you suggesting that I break the law or something?? Do you want me to end up like El Barracho De Cualican? The Cokes-Conteh Cartel will be ON MY ASS.
I just checked ITV, They ain't got shit it seems. This is going to be in somebody's private collection.
When I worked for the Council in Southwark {Which is where ITV and the BFI have their offices} I used to always send great emails. I think conversation is a lost art form.
Undoubtedly. It’s Basically a “Swipe Left” (Or is it RIGHT?) Climate These Days. REED Has Little Doubt He’d Be APPALLED By the Number of Those Who’ve ACTUALLY Sexed or Otherwise MANIPULATED a Situation, w/0% Conversation Involved. The FUCK is That! REED
I figured it was a long shot but I put out a request on a boxing torrent site and a guy pm'd me with this. Hi, I don´t think there is footage of this bout (definately not shown on the BBC) about but you might be able to buy direct from ITV. I did that last year for some very rare footage which you can then download direct from them. They are very expensive though, they even charge you 50 pounds just to confirm whether they have the bout or not! Good luck, Joe
We could use film aging technology to recreate the bout... Xplosive's Mario Van Peebles-looking ass could play Conteh and Sly could play Cokes ... I'll play a stuffy English commentator and Slice can do a cockney voice and be the color guy ... make it grainy and blurry enough and Joe won't know the difference! "The American is woefully outclAHssed yet making a brave challenge..." "E's in a bit of bother now, so 'e is"
Allegedly they re-shot the last 3 rounds of the JJ Jeffries vs Corbett fight. Canelo won all 3 round apparently.
Bumping This Because it's Joe Cokes' Birthday, Damnit!!!... Can the Search Resume, Por Favor???...REED'll Cover ALL Costs, Just Need to Know Who (If Anyone) HAS this Fucking Fight... Happy Birthday Joe! REED
Great thread, lads! Rather like a Thai massage, Ah wiz hoping fer a happy ending. Brother REED, as it’s Joe Cokes’ birthday Ah’ve managed tae find the weigh in but no joy on the fight, yet, Ah’m afraid... ITN - FS021013366_0.mov
The fight will 100% be with ITN Source, who I believe are now under the umbrella of Getty Images. Getty have seemingly taken over every major UK archive in the last five years or so. I mentioned it earlier in this thread but it really all depends on how well maintained the ITN archive was at the time. The main stations at the time didn't have much forward planning and none of them realised the future value of the archive. Everything was stored on film cans back then and kept in a huge warehouse. Space was limited, so a lot of them were wiped to free up room on the shelves. To give you an example, if you had a 6-episode series, they would keep the film cans for episodes 1 and 6, and scrap the rest, meaning episodes 2, 3, 4 and 5 were lost forever. There is a reasonable chance, unfortunately, they may have done this for the Conteh-Cokes fight, but again I don't know their business practices, they may have been more ahead of the game than the BBC. The fact they have the weigh-in is good, the fact there is no record listed of the fight is not. It may have been wiped. If the record was missing from the BBC section it would mean it is gone, but again, I don't know the ITN systems, they could work differently and it might still be there. Long story short, my point is - if it wasn't wiped to save space, the footage I can say with absolute 100% certainty will be in the possession of ITN Source. Link below: CONTACT US
Speaking of John Conteh, I'm mad his fight with Jorge Ahumada is no longer on YouTube. It was for awhile. That fight was a war fought on a very high skill level.
Ah sadly couldnae find the Cokes fight, but fer 23 bucks this wiz the best 'career collection' fer Conteh: Jorge Ahumada Billy Aird Tom Bogs Lonnie Bennett Jesse Burnett Chris Finnegan (10 min HL) Len Hutchins Yaqui Lopez Matthew Saad Muhammad I Matthew Saad Muhammad II Mate Parlov Rudiger Schmidtke Les Stevens BOXING DVDS — John Conteh Boxing DVDs
Brother REED - apart from Slice's great advice (advice he's given twice noo, the first time two years ago) tae contact ITV. Ye could always try getting Joe Cokes tae contact Conteh via Twitter (although, John's been inactive since 2013) or one o' his 'celeb'agents: agent@championsukplc.com Mibbees John Conteh has a video o' they fight he can pass on tae Joe?
I emailed ITV and they said they had nothing. Never heard anything about this ITN Source and when I emailed boxing monthly they didn't mention it either.
Yeah I tried them ages ago. Once they didn't have Cokes I lost interest and went back to browsing Reeds Facebook page and marveling at his collection of Pastel Shirts and tight fitting spandex knickers. Spandex Ballet as I calls him.
Yeah, wouldn't surprise me. These huge media companies have so many departments it can be impossible to keep track sometimes. I know plenty of BBC depts don't know we exist.
Excellent Lead Slice! I'll Check it Out Bruh... Joe Will Be Thrilled Enough by the Weigh-In Clip...Might Have a Fucking Heart Attack If/When I Get the Entire Fight for Him... Viva Fightbeat!!! REED
Terrific fight... Conteh just took command second half Ahumada was the second of the three “heartbreak kids” of 175 ... the first was Pierre Fourie and the third was Yaqui Lopez... all three could’ve been champs in another era but were doomed by the depth of the 1970s division
