Besides Esteban DeJesus & Saoul Mamby, the only recognizable names in his record are the guys who beat him: Benitez, Pryor & Locche. Kid Pambele was able to remain champ for 8 years mainly by fighting bums tbh.

What you can argue in Cervantes' defense is that Pedroza never dominated a prime fighter as good as DeJesus.

Cervantes beat DeJesus easier than Duran did.

Pedroza was already looking toward retirement for over a year before that bout. He just wanted to set a record of 20 title defenses and then retire. He was no longer 'hungry' and retired after that loss. His 19 title defenses are still a record at featherweight, though.

 

DeJesus was moving up in weight though

Pedroza's opposition is overall vastly better... fought in a traditional weight class with a deep talent pool and his challengers were overall rock solid

Cervantes has a handful of good names on there and he's got great consistency and longevity but he has loads of guys who were run of the mill in a who-cares division
