Self explanatory. Unless you're dumb in which case fuck you.

    Example.

Tyson vs Douglas 2. Mike trains this time and smashes him. Lighting doesn't strike twice.

Don't agree. Curry didn't accomplish much above 147. No reason to believe he beats maybe the best 154 pounder ever. McCallum knocking out Curey was an eventuality, not some freak occurrence.

looking back what a disappointment that fight was. Makes me think given ODH's impressive foot work... it had to be around that time he started wearing high heels

It probably wouldve turned into a classic in the 15 round era coz oscar wouldve been forced to stand and fight down the stretch

Donald Curry wasnt the most mentally tough fighter. I dunno if he woulda won a rematch with Honeyghan

Honeyghan was a lesser talent, but a harder MAN.

    I don't get this

Curry was weight drained ... mental toughness doesn't matter if your body can't respond

McCallum LOST the 1st 4 Rounds Pretty DECISIVELY. The Fight Itself Certainly LOOKED More Like a Freak Occurence Than an Eventuality.

There was NATHAN Whatsoever to Ascertain from the First 4 Rounds, Suggesting Curry Would “Eventually” Get KO’ed. NATHAN.

False. Absolutely false. I'm not homophobic like Stafford. I never for a second factor in Curry's sexuality when judging him as a fighter, especially considering that I'm a Curry FAN!

I think prime Curry was awesome to watch... but he wasn't perfect.

You'd never in a million years hear me call Emile Griffith mentally weak, and he took it up the ass.

Curry didn't have the intangibles and mental toughness of a Leonard, Robinson, Hagler.

Which is why for all his physical talent, he fell short of that level.

Curry had some success early against Nunn as well.

There was an interesting article and interview with Curry in Boxing News last year. He was asked about the Honeyghan fight and actually denied he was weight drained. He said he'd generally started to believe his own hype by that stage and took Honeyghan lightly, and that he didn't always train hard for certain fighters.

He did say that if he'd trained like he did for the MCcrory and Jones fights all the time, he believes no one would have ever beaten him.

    Interesting

Either way, though... whether weight or lack of training, I don't think that fight had anything to do with resolve and everything to do with one guy being prepared and the other guy not being prepared

I actually would give Vitali a chance of out-pointing the version of Lewis he faced initially. Sure, Lewis would likely be more prepared than he was (I think Vitali was a late replacement). But I also think Vitali went in there with something to prove and as a result, fought a little more recklessly than he needed to. In the rematch, it's possible...possible he could fight more conservatively and win a decision as a result.

I would also give him a good chance but I if were to put money on it I'd go with Lewis. Another thing to factor in is Vitali's eye. Not sure how well it would have held up in an immediate rematch.

For sure. Curry's a better fighter than Honeyghan, no doubt. From that article it seemed that he just lost focus at some stage and never really got his edge back and fell out of love with the game.

He was brilliant when he was on point though.

Looked it up. McCallum was 31-0 with 28 knockouts going into that fight. Hardly a fluke.

I doubt Curry ever beats McCallum.

I dont think he was durable enough, and he wasnt the defensive master that Kalambay could be.

I think McCallum always breaks him down.

Agree. McCallum probably doesn't repeat the picture perfect KO, but I agree he breaks him down nonetheless. By the fourth round Curry's eye was already swollen badly. He was going to to toe with McCallum. No way he was going to survive to 15 rounds of that.

The McCallum KO highlighted one of Curry's fatal flaws.

The guy had a tendency to pull straight back from punches. Honeyghan exposed this flaw as well.

Curry was excellent, but he definitely wasnt perfect.

He woulda been eaten alive by Leonard, Hearns, and Duran.

Yeah, Curry was kind of rigid and hittable. Quitting in the corner and getting knocked cold with one punch don’t really bode well for him in mythical matchups. Especially against the guy that knocked him cold with one punch.
