  1. Anyone who's interested in boxing history & the lighter weights will be intetested or might have seen this:

    Brutal.

The ending knockout that killed him was quite brutal.

Pintor hit him with a seemingly nothing right hand, and Owen dropped like he had been hit by Jackson. His brain was mostly already already scrambled and swollen going into the fatal round.

Tough to watch. Brave guy, very tragic. This sport is insanely brutal.

Sounds like the guy most likely died a virgin.

I'm not even making light of that, its legitimately sad that he 100% dedicated his life to something that killed him, without ever experiencing a woman or much else in life.

24 in the United Kingdom of that era, and rural Wales at that................ unexceptionable.

Pintor was always haunted by it, too ... awful tragedy

I heard Pintor strutted around immediately afterwards and then grinned like a hyena when he met the guys family years later.

Owen's father said of Pintor "he is a wonderful man"

    Pinter did it on purpose

    We're talking about Pintor

  10. It´s a knockdown/knockout I´ve not seen the likes of before - it just looks bad, the way his body stiffens, his legs just collapse from under him and he´s slumped on the canvas...

  11. Two other things to note:
    a) the cut inside Owen´s lip was huge - like someone has sliced it with a knife
    b) his cranium was supposedly thinner than normal, but his upper/lower jaw bones were normal thickness.

Owen is probably the second most distributing ring death to witness.

I think THE most distributing is Duk Koo Kim, because the poor guy was trying so desperately to get up off the canvas while LITERALLY dying. It's very sad and distributing to watch, yet at the same time, beautifully heroic.

I still can't fucking believe Kim was allowed to come out for the 14th round.

His face and head were soooooooooo badly swollen between rounds, any competent medical professional shoulda taken one look and decided that the fight was over.

Paret is fucking horrifying... Emile just unloads on him while he's lifeless held up by the ring post

That was commonplace in the old days. It's a miracle that MORE fighters didn't die.

That's why I rarely get super outraged about quick stoppages.

Any ref on Earth can live with stopping a fight too quickly. How can a ref live with stopping one too late?

Yeah a stoppage has to be really awful for me to say much

All in all, these deaths are, broadly speaking, flukes.

Owen just was anatomically not suited to the sport and the debilitating effects of dehydration and those long 15 round fights with the small gloves simply was too much for him.

He'd probably not get hurt today. Lower standard of comp, shorter fights, bigger gloves, less traveling to fight killers in the desert, better science and ringside medical care.

    If YOU say so.

Pacquaio-esque stoppage. Apparently the Thai went on a party binge soon after and got beaten up by Fenech, the Malaria Man.
