Nice to see him back on the horse.

Not a big fan of the cast though, and that roundhouse kick to the grenade really threw me for a loop.

We Were Soliders set in a different campaign and with a different ´morality tale´.

This film was done in complete secrecy. Less than a month ago I was watching Apocalypto, and the sides check IMDb for info on Gibson and any movie that he was going to direct. This movie was not listed. All of a sudden this movie is in postproduction and now is listed on that website. Pretty incredible.

I don't see it that way, Randall Wallace is not even close to the director that Mel Gibson is. And both movies are basically true stories that happened.

Dude. Its basically the same team: Mel Gibson, Randall Wallace, Bruce Davey.

´Hey guys, lets do another movie just like We Were Soldiers, but to confuse people, CGI it to fuck, swap some moviemaking positions around, use the Good Ole´ USA in wartime as the underlying patriotic backdrop and seamlessly introduce some morality aspect to it to try and catch the Awards´

These are true stories tho. It's not the same story. Different stories that really happened. Just because it involved Gibson and war, doesnt mean it's the same thing.

Anyways, its clearly not going to in the vein of Das Boot, Apocalypse Now, Paths Of Glory, Full Metal Jacket, Come And See, The Thin Red Line, etc...but I´ll definately go and watch it!

By that Logic, Django Unchained and Hateful Eight are basically the same movie.

Pulp Fiction & Jackie Brown (same shit)

Lets see, Braveheart. True story involved Gibson (Actor/Director), Wallace (Writer), Davey (Producer), war & heroism. By your logic, it's basically the same thing.
    Yeah Okay.

The visual style seems very similar to me. That sort of over the top visceral violence, grenade kicking, these guys are supermen, and the like. Peter Berg also employed a similar style in "Lone Survivor".

They did it in "The Patriot" to. Turns already high stakes situations into cartoons. Rubs me a bit the wrong way.

I really, really wanted to like "We Were Soldiers" as my dad was part of that same unit in Vietnam (though 2-3 years later), but I had a hard time buying into that storytelling and visual style.

Again tho. We are talking Mel Gibson directing this movie. He is a much better director.

I think the filming went low profile due the Mel Gibson 'pariah' condition: the media would have been trashing the film and its cast to sabotage anything Gibson do so that its bad press hurt Gibson. He will never be forgiven for his drunk comments.

Yeah, as predicted, this is a by-the-numbers war movie with the Mel Gibbbon morality-tale tacked onto it.

During the Full Metal Jacket first-half, Garfield does his usually pouty, weak-ass, worried-look throughout, Vince Vaughn is a little bit funny as Warren Oates´ Sgt Hulka / R Lee Emery´s Gunnert Sgt Hartman....later at Okinawa Is., hundreds of Japs scream ´Banzai!!!´ and ruthlessy cut down the Yanks with machine guns and then outrage American audiences everywhere by bayonetting the survivors....Garfield saves a load of guys, gets some award and thats it.

    6/10, see ya.

( I stopped short of standing and applauding, btw)

This is a great film! Best movie of 2016. Very deserving of all its Academy awards nominations, including Best Picture (I know is not going to win because (A) Mel Gibson's blacklisted factor (b) it is about a Christian patriotic young man (c) everybody is swallowing the cum of 'La La Land' a valentine card to LA so this film has zero chances). Powerful drama with gripping realistic portray of World War II battle scenes. Very moving scenes near the end. Gibson's best directorial film since 'Braveheart'. 9/10

I have mixed feelings about it as while it is a well directed and acted film, it deviates way too much from the Scriptures and has a lot Catholic tradition through out the whole thing. Plus the title should have been 'the Beating of the Christ' as, gee, do we need to watch two hours of an innocent man getting tortured and beaten to a pulp? The resurrection part lasted like 10 seconds at the end. There is no reward in watching this film! It is a good movie with zero replay value.

I have to agree this was easily the best film of that year. Funny thing was, I didn’t quite realize how good it was the first time I saw it. On the second viewing I realized it is a great film in nearly every aspect and it has great replay value as it got sucked in on a third viewing when Insaw it on. Panchy gives out 9/10’s like their candy but for this film I agree that it is not hyperbole. 9/10.
