Watched this yesterday and was a complete surprise to me as I hasn't heard of this: Viggo Mortenson and Mahershala Ali in a 60s 'road-movie' of sorts.



Brilliant acting.

Over here it has gotten pretty much publicity. All critics seem to agree that the movie itself is average but the actors do great job, which isn't surprising

 

That's a fair assessment.

 

You haven't heard of it? It is nominated for a bunch of Oscars including Best Picture and has grossed over $65 million box office gross.

 

Further proof and testament to my high level of quality movies then...I just keep picking winners.

 

Pffffffttttt!!! You admitted watching it recently, after it got all the nominations. You just went there blindly obeying the Almight Oscar gold.

 

I watched this last night.

Good God, talk about mediocre!

Ali's performance was the ONLY bright spot in this film.

Viggo, great actor, extremely talented... but he was absolutely LAUGHABLE as a New York Italian. Comically bad. He should never play an Italian again. He was excellent as a Russian in Eastern Promises, but Italians just aren't his thing.

Even as a black man, I must say, this has gotta be one the weakest "Best Pictures" ever.

Agreed, mediocre is the word. Not a great Oscars shortlist anyhow but this end up joining the list of unworthy winner's. .

 

Is the PC reverse 'Driving Miss Daisy'. All of this year's Best Picture nominees were mediocre.

 

The character Viggo was playing was the actor who played Carmine Sr. in the Sopranos

 

Well that Oscar did magic for this little film which now is a bonafide blockbuster with $274 million worldwide. Those are great numbers for a $23 million budget film.
