It's time for Mikey fans to admit that Spence was the very first elite fighter Mikey has faced, and he looked TOTALLY lost. I'm sorry, but if he was as talented as his hype, he woulda done better. Not at all saying he should have won, but if Mikey Garcia was every bit as good as his hype, he woulda put up SOME challenge. I been said for YEARS now that this guy isnt a boxing phenom.
garcia was over matched. this fight doesnt say anything about his talent. just a bad match up vs a longer, stronger opponent who is also very skilled.
So if Mikey isn't that good, then Errol's victory last night does not mean much. After all an elite welterweight beating an overrated lightweight (in YOUR opinion) wouldn't exactly be a feather in Spence's cap right?
Crawford, like Garcia, imo is too small for Spence. Like to see him fight some big guys like Hurd and Munguia
Exactly. Fat Mikey was just a showcase fight for Errol, nothing more. Well actually, it did show Jerruh that Spence was a star, unlike the rest of the Cowboys roster
I'm not trying to have it both ways. What are you guys not getting? I swear, Cdogg seems like the only one who is comprehending that just because I believe Mikey is overrated, doesn't mean I don't think he's a quality fighter. And did I say this was some all time great performance by Spence? No. It would be if Mikey was a great fighter, but we've already established I don't think of Mikey as a great fighter. But Mikey is one of the 7 best fighters in the world, and is a very good technician, so the fact that Spence made him look like a novice is impressive. What's so hard to understand about this post?
Considering that earlier you said that Spence is the p4p #1 now, it would imply you hold this performance in great value. I doubt just a win over Brook would win him the title. Also you seem to read the dumbest statements in the world from somewhere considering Garcia and Lomachenko, and then you attack those views. In this forum I haven't seen overrating of Garcia, and getting pummeled by much bigger man doesn't mean much, if anything. Spence is quality
In terms of quality, I think Spence has as good a claim as any as P4P #1, sure. Could also go with Crawford, Loma, or Inoue. Personally, I think if Inoue and Loma were the same natural size, Loma would get brutally fucked up, so I think the Japanese has as good a claim as any. Which makes it all the more vital that we see Spence-Crawford. The winner will be the CONSENSUS P4P king.
I'm a Spence fan, and have recently considered Garcia to be pretty overrated, but much respect to Garcia I am honestly amazed he hung in there to the end. The beating got worse as the fight went on, and Errol pretty much treated him as a heavybag. I believe Spence is the better fighter of the two, but does this fight say much about what would have happened if Mikey was a natural welterweight? Not really. The guy was heavily outgunned by a much bigger fighter, and fighting a division he should be nowhere near. The guy looked undersized at 140, let alone 147. He looked fat and slow and weak, nothing he could do would discourage the much bigger Spence, and he obviously had to be far more cautious than usual as Spence was the biggest most powerful guy he'd fought. For the record I still think Spence would win if they were the same size.
So size matters if it's mythical P4P matchup between Inoue and Loma where Chenko could only win by being bigger. Lomachenko beating Rigo was also only due to size. However Spence beating Garcia had nothing whatsoever to do with being bigger.
He’s #1 by default there is no one else....beat welterweight...but not a generational boxer as some article this morning tried to make him out to be. Gotta do more that 2 quality wins...lots of quality guys at 147 for him if they have the balls to fight him...no need moving up in weight chasing false unicorns. Unless a fight again Canelo or GGG could be made
I don't know what makes spence the top welterweight aside from speculation I'd pick Crawford over Spence, but not with great confidence
He's beaten significantly better comp at 147 than Crawford, therefore I feel he deserves the claim as the man at 147. Crawford has to come take that label away from Spence, not vice versa.
I dont think Loma-Rigo was JUST about size, but that situation was very different. Rigo was an inactive, old man. If the of Rigo 7-8 years ago moves up to 130 to fight Loma, it's probably a different fight. Does Rigo WIN?? Maybe not, but he'd likely do a lot better than he did.
He's beaten 1 top ten guy, brook. let's not go overboard here. I like spence and his thin resume is no fault of his own, but the best welterweight claim is clearly up for grabs
Brook JUST top ten? Ohhh how quickly people forget. When Spence beat Brook, Brook was considered by MANY as the top dog at welter, just not top 10. Crawford has beaten Horn, and the muucchhh lesser talented of the Benavidez brothers. Neither of those guys are in Brook's class. Spence should rightfully be considered the man at 147, until Crawford beats him.
On paper Loma’s wins over Russell, Walters and Rigondeaux are clearly head and shoulders above what Crawford and Spence have done. TBH it’s hard to tell if this a strong or weak pfp picture. Spence and Crawford’s resumes are so thin that if they lost the hype trains would fly off the tracks and explode. Loma’s the one that’s most active and fighting the best comp but ( surprise) he’s the one with a loss and few less than impressive performances. Canelo has scraped by his best competition if he really beat them at all. GGG hasn’t been winning decisively since he started fighting elite guys. Inoue looks like a beast but he needs a breakout win to feel like he has a real claim.
I think what tips me to pick Spence over Crawford is that a war would STRONGLY favor Spence. Whereas, its unclear if a chessmatch would favor Crawford. Spence has now exhibited the technical ability to make us question if Crawford can even outbox him. Crawford is more fast twitchy than Spence, but that doesn't automatically make him a better technician.
Brooks only relevant win is over Porter, who’s pretty mediocre. And Brokeface Brook is the best win Spence and Crawford have between them.
Walters???? LMFAOOOOO!!!! Kell Brook is head and shoulders better than Dickless Walters. Russell is Loma's best win.
Crawford beats Spence with angles. Not saying it will be easy or anything, Spence is obviously really good, but Crawford's switch hitting ability will be tough to train for.
Why is there even a discussion about who has the better resume at 147? Crawford has only 2 fights at Welterweight. Spence should have the better resume at that weight...DUH!!!
Nobody laughed at Walters until Loma clowned him. That was supposed to be a mini super fight coming in. Brooks best win was over a guy you consistently call a bum and that’s his only relevant win.
There is no clear cut top dog at 147 until these guys fight. Brook is a decent fighter but beating him alone ain't enough to anoint spence
Why do you all suspect Pacquiao is so willing to face Spence? Clearly Haymon wants to feed him to spence. Yet when Arum tried the same, pacquiao refused to face Crawford several times. It has got to be a financial thing, where he is being offered a great deal more money to get beatdown by spence.
