It sucks for Crawford, cause had that fight happened, Crawford woulda thrashed Pac and become a mainstream name. Now Spence gets to thrash Pac, and IF Spence vs Crawford happens, TC is definitely gonna be the B-side.
Agree 100%, Garcia looked inept, I thought he would have done much better early (even if was obvious he was going to lose big no matter what). Yeah we all saw numerous time a smaller great fighter get totally owned by a bigger (and sometimes not even great) fighter, but they nonetheless nearly alway's managed to showcase some of their skills and craft (unless they were totally blown out a la Spinks vs Tyson)
100% agree once again. Even Linares is arguably better than anyone on Crawford or Spencer resume (considering the weight obviously and yes I know he just got blown out in 1 by a journeyman).
I just cant respect the opinion of anyone who thinks crawford has a claim as being the top p4p fighter in the sport. His resume makes calzaghe resume look like duran one
Theres no clear cut P4P at the moment. Not ONE of these guys has an exceptional resume, so we gotta judge em mainly on quality. And in terms of quality, yes, Spence has a good case for best fighter in the world. This guy has lost a grand total of 3-5 fucking ROUNDS in his entire career. 3 rounds to Brook, arguably 1 to Mikey, and maybe another round or 2 in his other fights.
Theres nobody who can convince me that Loma is definitely a better fighter than Spence. Spence ain't Gary Russell
Spence resume isn’t based on his body of work over his career at welter because Algieri, Bundu and Alejandro Barrera aren’t gonna get you on p4p lists (actually it worked for Spence). Brokeface Brook and Fat Mike are his relevant wins. 2 fights at welter like Crawford has.
Samuel vargas is becoming one of spences to wins! He just gave collazo all he could handle, and nearly kod khan!
Horn is one of the worst title holders in welterweight history, and Jose Benavidez only has 1 good leg. It's not the same. It's not worth going back and forth on this. Both are terrific fighters, and I'm not positive either way who wins. I lean towards Spence, but I sure as Hell ain't certain. Crawford might very well beat him. They need to fight, and it has nothing to do with THEM personally. Neither one is scared of the other. This comes down to Arum and Haymon needing to work together the give the fans what they demand.
I knew you meant Crawford and I completely agree. His resumé is a fucking joke, I find it kind of unreal that anyone would rank him top 3 P4P or even top 5. You can't rank someone that highly without proof of it against elite opposition. It's almost like Hamed all over again. As much as I've always shat on Canelo, he has more of a claim for the Golovkin rematch alone, let alone all his other wins that shit on the likes of Big Dongo etc.
At this point, loma is the obvious p4p #1. His resume is so much better than the other contenders. Weirdly enougb, canelo might have a case if he beats jacobs in style (he wont)
I really wish people would stop selling this guy's skill level short. Spence is the one with the Olympic pedigree, not Crawford. Spence is the one who was a blue chip prospect as soon as he turned pro, not Crawford. Theres no proof that Crawford is the more skilled of the two. People are saying that cause TC's style is flashier, and more fast twitchy.
The same mistake is gonna be made by many if this fight gets signed - the notion is gonna be that Spence can't outbox Crawford, he'll have to impose himself to win. I dont buy that. Saying it right now, I would not be surprised if Spence OUTBOXED Crawford.
The point phonetap has been getting at is if you cannot tell that, Spence, Garcia, Crawford, Loma and ect are immense talents in the sport of boxing you need to reevaluate whether you are a true 'boxing fan' or not. Tearing down one boxers resume to elevate the guy you personally like is beneath many of you. Garcia is a great lightweight, but a average welterweight. That is NOT a knock on his resume, or his skills and abilities, its a stone cold FACT and the precise reason why boxing has WEIGHT DIVISIONS. Spence & Crawford look to be among the most talented fighters who happen to be the same weight division. Who gives a fuck about who's resume is better. Styles makes fights, not resumes. phonetap leans toward Spence at this moment because of size and strength, even though phonetap believes Crawford has the advantage in overall skills. That fight would probably come down to who is the tougher and who would dig down deeper. Cannot wait to see it...
I'm just not as enamored with Loma as some. In terms of quality, I don't see a gap between hok and TC, Spence, and Inoue. Loma is not Roy, he's not Floyd, he's not Whitaker. But he's hyped as if he's on that level. He really is not.
Neither are Spence or Crawford, but they’re black so they seem so much closer... Loma’s run at 126 and 130 was more impressive than Floyd at 130-135.
Nobody is saying Craw is not talented. But in order to rate among the top 3 best fighters in the world, you have to show your skills and talents against elitle level guys. We've seen a lot of people look like magic against B-C guys, and failling miserably against the A guys
To Terp's last post, 1. You'll never ever a day in your life hear me say that Spence or Crawford are as good as Roy, cause they sure as fuck are not. 2. LMAOOO! Yeaaahhh ok. Just like Rosendo Alvarez was better than Floyd, right?
The fact about Crawford is that he cleaned out 140 - easily beating Postol and Indongo, who were considered the number 2 guys in the division when TC dominated them. Its convenient to call them bums in hindsight. And at 135, Crawford took the title from Burns, who was considered the number 1 guy at 135 at that time. The only complaint that can be made for TC is that he's not in the mix with the PBC guys. Besides that, there's not a lot to nitpick about his resume.
I said Alvarez had a good chance at Floyd p4p after the Sosa and Castillo fights because Floyd didn’t look impressive in those fights and I still believe it. Floyd wasn’t this untouchable flawless boxing god until he sold that image to the public. He was never seen as the p4p #1 until the guys that had been in contention for that title got old. Him beating a past prime Oscar and Mosley was symbolic of that. Outside of Salido, Loma always looked great at 126 and 130.
It'd be nice if guys like Prograis and Taylor were ready at 140 when Crawford was around, but they were both obscure at the time.
Burns is average and Postol, Indongo and Horn were “undefeated nobodies” brought in to lose against flawed A sides. You can’t accuse him of ducking anyone but it’s not a p4p resume on its own. Or at least it shouldn’t be.
Come on. Nobody thought much of these guys when Crawford faced them. Cleaning out a very very weak division is not much of an accomplishment
