Gvodzdyk fights some guy I've never heard of ESPN, and Ryan Garcia fights some journeyman on DAZN. On an eventful night I'd probably pass on both, but I have zero plans for tonight, so I suppose I'll tune in for both.
2000 was probably one of the best years for boxing when Mayweather, Roy Jones, Prince Naseem, Morales, Barrera, Lennox, Tyson, Holyfield, Vargas, Felix Trinidad, Shane Mosley, Oscar, etc were all active and fighting 2-3 times that year. So much hype on the forums almost every week with so many boxing matches happening. Now it stinks!
Ryan Garcia has good pop, and nice handspeed, but he definitely doesnt look like the complete package to me. His infighting is nonexistent, for one. If he faces a pressure fighter who can effectively get inside on him, he'll be in trouble. His combination of speed and power is gonna be enough to overwhelm a lot of guys, but measured against his peers, I think Lopez and Haney are better and more talented.
Garcia looks like the next Khan, only with more pop than Khan. Like Khan, he relies heavily on his handspeed, and cant fight inside. He doesn't seem like much of a thinker either, also reminiscent of Khan.
A "MEH" Saturday of Boxing, But REED'll Gladly Take That Over NO Boxing @ All... Liam Smiff Beat the Shit Out of Green Eggs and Hammington, Sam I Am, Sam Eggington...Eggington Can BARELY Fight @ All and is CLUELESS Fighting Backwards, Which Smiff FORCE Him to Do Until the Bout was Mercifully Stopped in the 5th... Glad to See Ryan Garcia Trained by Eddie Reynoso...He's a FULL 2 Years Away from Primetime in REED's Opinion...Last Night was Garcia's 18th Win...Get Him to About 25 Wins Before Facing Legit Top 10 Guys...By Then, Reynoso Will Have Tightened Up His Flaws... Can't Be Mad @ Gvozdyk...Dou Dou Ngumbu Fought Light Shit and Either Came INTO the Fight as Damaged Goods OR Could Feel the Going was About to Get Tough and Exited Stage Left... C- Night of Boxing, but Again, it was Better than NO Boxing @ All... REED
REED Likes Garcia's Aggression and Combination Punching, but the Way His Chin HANGS in the Air on a Seafood Platter Doesn't Bode Well...A Tough Winger Who ISN'T Easily Discouraged Could Spell Trouble for Garcia... And Yes, Lopez and Haney are Clearly Better...Garcia Isn't Progressing as They Are and Hopefully Golden Boy Doesn't Feel Pressured to KEEP Garcia on a Similar Course to Those 2...They're just BETTER Fighters...Not to Say Garcia Can't CLOSE the Gap, but That Won't Be Anytime Soon... REED
He has the potential to be better than Khan if the Reynoso's teach him correctly. Not that Amir Khan is a high bar to surpass... Garcia is cool though, I'm not rooting against him. He seems like a good kid.
The Kid has LEGITIMATE Star Quality...That's Easy to Root For, Because it's GOOD for Our Sport... They'd Better NOT Rush Him Though...Don't Allow the Exploits of Haney or Teofimo or Shakur or Vergil Ortiz to FORCE Garcia's People Into Overmatching Him... REED
I mean, maybe. Its possible Garcia is a total bust, we still dunno yet. But I could see him surpassing Khan, slightly, as his ceiling. The odds are very slim of him ever being ever being as good as Canelo, or his promoter.
BTW, I find it interesting that Ryan cant speak Spanish. That's not gonna sit well with Mexican fans. Must be a Garcia thing, cause Danny Garcia cant speak Spanish either. But that's different. Its common for Ricans not to know a lick of Spanish. But Mexicans look down on that shit.
Khan won a silver medal in the Olympics and became a unified champion. we will see what garcia does. He is a ways away
To his credit, he does have wins over Maidana and a still near prime Paulie. Judah too, but Zab was very long in the tooth.
Even Puerto Ricans look down on it, too. I can definitely tell you that Danny Gift is not that popular or beloved in PR. Many don’t even consider him Puerto Rican. But yeah Ryan Garcia better learn how to speak Spanish. That will limit his star quality no matter how we slice it.
Or maybe he can try to be a "villain" and deliberately push a point he doesn't speak it and wants nothing to do with that language. Latinos will tune into hoping he loses like some people did with Floyd.
