Pretty sure DLH and Calzaghe frequent the same stops.

 

Thought the fight was OK tbh. Both guys looked sharp, Canelo looked better than I expected and let his hands go more than usual. Seemed a bit more spritely and light on his feet too.

Gotta admit, though I was rooting for Jacobs I don't think he did anywhere near enough, I felt this one was closer than usual to Canelo, 8 to 4. I was surprised the scorecards were as close as they were, given who was fighting.

 

Oh and I feel like anyone who thinks Bradley actually beat Pacquiao should probably stop watching boxing, and stick to WWE or figure skating.

Pacman won 10 rounds, at least. One of the worst decisions in boxing history, and obviously snake Arum's doing. Manny outlanded him in literally 10 out of 12 rounds, and the harder shots too.

 

It's probably the most agreed upon robbery I've ever seen

I distinctly remember Bradley saying that his lackluster performance in the first fight was because of the spongee ring

 

Except his stance was face-on, wide-open and his hooks were telegraphed.

A proper finisher gets Quartey out of there, IMO

The shot that dropped him was brilliant and a good example of Hoya's quality... the follow up was amateur hour and a good example of Hoya's flaws

 

I honestly thought his absolute peak when everything clicked was at 135-140.
Ruelas, Chavez, Gonzalez, Molina, Hernandez...better combinations, better footwork and he looked a lot more 'compact' too...especially 140

 

I think he was probably peak at 140 ... suited his large frame but allowed him to retain the speed and power better

But some of his struggles at 147+ are down to the opposition... it's one thing to overwhelm a badly faded Chavez with handspeed or stop a small, overrated Ruelas... it's another when the opponents are a still pretty formidable Whitaker, strong guys like Quartey and Mosley etc

 

Yeah, Quartey would have been a goner if that was Leonard who got him in trouble.

 

Agreed that 140 was peak Oscar.

Yeah, DAZN is failing man. They really are.

They have until June to get their shit together on my end.

I need them on the 18th, because I wanna see Inoue and Taylor.

Joshua-Ruiz is their last chance. If the same problems persist on that broadcast, I'm cancelling.

 

The Quartey fight and Vargas fights had a few things in common, he was behind early on, in trouble, and needed something late on. So he got a bit wild but only after worldly single left hooks started the rot.

And he still got the stoppages.

 

He didn't stop Quartey, it went to the cards and many had Quartey winning (I thought Oscar edged it thanks to that 10-8) ... he would've gotten him out of there if he weren't tae-boing in the corner

 

In the Vargas and Magua fights he got the stoppages.........Oscar could and did finish guys.

 

I think Canelo is the worst consensus "MW Champ" for a long long time. Quite possibly since the 1970's

 

I think it was more those guys being so far gone that his shitty finishing didn't really matter much

 

Oscar was a good finisher - definitely an above average one - but not among the all time great finishers.

When I think of the truly great finishers in history, guys like Leonard, Louis, Tyson, Hagler, Ali, Gomez, Arguello, come to mind. Not Oscar.

 

I think he's better than Taylor. Not by a big margin though.

 

Agreed, certainly better than Taylor and I think better than Martinez as well

It's been a weak era for awhile ... he's certainly not bad by any means and his style is obviously vastly more appealing than Taylor's skittish nervous haymaker right hand throwing or Martinez's cultured baboon tennis pro approach

Both those guys fought and beat a bunch of good fighters and one of them had a close fight with one of the greatest of all time ... Marvin should've gotten the decision but it was hardly a whitewash... Vito got some work done as well
