I think prime Martinez (09-11) would have beaten Canelo.

I think Canelo is the worst consensus "MW Champ" for a long long time. Quite possibly since the 1970's

Antuofermo and Minter Both Fought in the 80's and Canelo Certainly Isn't "Worse" Than Them...

Canelo hasn't fought a competent southpaw since Lara. Kirkland is a bum and dont count. Canelo has also been quicker than his recent opponents, which wouldn't be the case against Martinez.

Martinez had the handspeed and athleticism to give Canelo Hell, and with his conditioning he wouldn't wear down.

I don't think he's clearly better than either ... your post made it seem like they were obviously inferior prizefighters ...

Yeah but MW Cotto is worse than everyone listed barring Martinez, and Martinez tore his quads during the match

Martinez was an awful boxer with horrible technique... Canelo has already been competitive enough to "win" against better fighters than him

Antuofermo would give Canelo hell and I don't see him lose to Floyd as badly as Canelo did. All scared and holding his hands.

He'd probably beat the Floyd Canelo fought in spite of it being a stylistic struggle for him

Compubox kind of confirms my thoughts that the fight wasn't close - Canelo landed 43% more punches, and at twice the connect ratio.

Again, you guys know me and my opinion of Canelo - I've always been highly adverse to the fat legged little ginger and always root against him - but this was a dominant win imo. Canelo looked good, and his defence in particular looked better than ever. Jacobs was having a really hard time landing clean, that big flush left hook in round 9 really stood out, as almost everything else was skimming, or Canelo was rolling with it. It was hardly a 1 sided arse kicking, but I don't think the fight was close either. Combubox stats even seem generous to Jacobs tbh, given the lack of cleanness with which his shots were landing.

REED just Found it Strange Irish Tried to Portray Canelo as the WORST Since the 70's, When There's Well Known Middleweights from the 80's Canelo's AS GOOD or Better Than...

REED Ain't Saying Canelo SHITS on Antuofermo or Minter, but he's Better, if Only Slightly...

I obviously ain't an Alvarez fan, but bringing up his fight with Mayweather jr is pretty irrelevant when it comes to discussing how good a middleweight he is in 2019

If Antuofermo Fought Floyd @ Age 22, he Might...

Sure, Antuofermo Would Be Competitive w/Canelo, But that SKIN Though?...

Canelo didn't beat GGG either time, he failed a drugs test, his last fight was against a guy that was beat multiple times before, including by guys that GGG has and hasn't fought, he lost to Floyd, and he's beaten precious few full size 160lb fighters, or, as Hopkins might say, "Slick Black fighters".

And the mere thought of somebody as good as Alan Minter being fooled for 5 rounds by former 140lb attraction Amir Khan..............

Same. I've never liked him and still don't, but I don't think 2019 Canelo bears much resemblance to the one that got schooled by Floyd.

I'm a Khan fan and indifferent to Canelo but Khan's success is rather overrated in that fight. He won maybe a couple of rounds but it was clear Canelo was chopping him and walking him down. Don't think he looked "fooled" at all.

    THIS...

Canelo Wasn't as Concerned w/Defense Because he KNEW he was in w/a Chinny Bastard Who A.) Couldn't Hurt Him and B.) Would Be Concussed the 1st Time He Absorbed a FLUSH Shot...

Antuofermo DIDN'T Beat Hagler in 2 Fights Either, Yet he Gets CREDIT for "Fighting Arguably the Best Middleweight Who Ever Lived", While You Chip Away @ Canelo for "NOT Beating GGG Either Time"????...How Does THAT Work, Exactly???...

Again, Canelo was 22 When he Lost to Floyd...He's 28 Now...What was the Quality of Antuofermo's Opposition @ Age 22???...

It's a GIVEN Fighter's of Today SHRINK DOWN to Lower Weights MUCH More Than they Did "Back in the Day"...Point Being, in Terms of SIZE, Canelo's Probably Facing TRUE "Full Sized" Super Middles or Light Heavy's, Instead of Middleweights...

"Fooled" by Khan...Perhaps YOU Were Fooled, but it was Pretty Obvious Canelo's ONLY Plan was to Place his Fist on Khan's Chin...Defense, Strategy and Nuance Weren't Part of the Equation That Night Because it Wasn't Required...
