Credit to Hurd for not making excuses. At least yet. Due to promoters and management, excuses inevitably come. But hopefully not. 154 pounds is a great division. A lot of talent.
I'd rather see a rematch between these two as a boxing fan If I was on hurds team I wouldnt push for one immediately But stylistically it's more appealing to watch than Williams vs either charlo or Harrison
The most likely excuse we will hear from Hurd's people is that he was weight-drained. Which seems plausible given how big he is.
Wheres Terp at???????? That Muhfucka was telling me that Tony Harrison is way better than J-Rock. I was calling bullshit on him!
The whole time I was waiting for Williams to wear down or get badly hurt by one power shot but I’m glad it wasn’t the case. He put on a great performance. Loved the little angles he took inside to set up those counter hooks and uppercuts.
After Spence batters bum ass Porter, I think a Spence-Williams matchup would make A LOT of sense. I'm sure J-Rock would jump at it. He has balls, unlike Thurman.
I think Spence would win, but let's be honest, J-Rock is a better fighter than Porter, Cherry Garcia, and Thurman.
Thurman or Spence would beat Williams pretty easily. I almost always prefer an undefeated guy to take some tune up, easy win fights before stepping back up. I'm going to make an exception here. I think Hurd should rematch him in the next fight. This seemed like a loss due to tactics and strategy more than ability. If Hurd is not 100% up for an immediate rematch, however, then no way. Williams is quality, but he's not that good. This fight was pure 80s offensive tough black guys fighting each other like American pros. This style gets stymied in the amateurs because it's too easy to land punches against it. I thought maybe Hurd was better since he beat Lara, but now I'm thinking it was mainly because Lara was old. Just looked at Boxrec in order to pick out some Euros who would fuck Williams up, but I don't see any I'm familiar with. I would pick Munguia (easily), Je Charlo (with confidence), and Adames (probably) to beat Williams. I'll be picking Hurd (without confidence) if they rematch.
Thurman would beat Williams easily?????????? LMFAOOO!!!! J-Rock has actual skills. Thurman does not. And Williams is the bigger/stronger man.
williams would destroy munguia. williams showed great skill and craftiness on the inside lets take some of the heat off mikE's last post with this gem Round 12: Williams 10-9. Incredible action fight! I have Hurd winning 114-113. Could go either way. Great fight. They both laid it on line tonight.
You beat me to it! I was JUST about post regarding this. It wouldn't be surprising, though. Real boxing fans know that Fat Dan knows NOTHING about this sport. He stays employed by ESPN because ESPN doesn't know enough about boxing to know that Fat Boy is a hack.
Find mE when Thurman or Munguia gets a shot at Williams. I'll back it up. Williams looked good because Hurd's defense sucked. Thurman is just better than Williams. The reason I could lose that one is because lots of Welters lose it when they move up to jr mid. Munguia goes to the body way too good for Williams. He'd stop Williams.
Williams is a much better technician than Run Time, btw. I dont see how Thurman would beat him. Tonight was a better performance than any in Keith's disappointment of a career.
williams showed more skill in the hurd fight sitting in the pocket or in a phone booth and landing short, crisp shots. countering hurd, making him miss. never seen that from thurman in any of his fights
It's time to be honest about Munguia. He fooled me for one fight, but now we see that he looked like a killer against Ali because Sadam is... well... shitty.
As McDogg says, he's a leap amateur. Has always depended on his athleticism. And at this point, he's less athletic than he was 5 years ago.
The obese fuck was probably in a food coma, and only gained consciousness in the 2-3 rounds Hurd had success.
