I think this could be a good fight. Still not sold on Mikey at 147. But among the division's best, this would seem like the most winnable fight for him.
Danny will win. Mikey is not a ww, in fact he looks pretty pathetic at the weight. No, Danny is not as good as Spence or even close to being as good as Spence, but he's plenty good enough to get a fairly easy win here.
i pick miguel garcia by decision. its pretty telling that PBC thinks this is a PPV worthy fight but spence porter is not. perhaps spence should consider this when he is barking about how he's the A side in a crawford negotiation and pointing to the success of his last fight
I don't see Danny winning easily. If he wins, it's gonna be based on his size and power. Mikey is clearly the better technician, and can win his share of rounds outboxing Danny. Mikey was fucked against Spence because Spence was the bigger man AND the better technician.
I think it's pretty intentional on PBC's part. They're building toward Spence vs the winner of Pac-Thurman, and they're smart enough to realize that BOTH those matchups shouldn't be PPV. Pac is by far the biggest mainstream name that PBC has, so obviously, Pac-Thurman is put on PPV. Spence-Porter is thankfully put on free TV, so that way Spence gets more mainstream exposure. Rest assured that Spence vs Pac/Thurman will be PPV, and it'll probably do pretty good numbers. As for Spence-Crawford, IF Spence isn't already the A-side, then he damn sure will be after August. He'll be unified, and I'm sure Spence-Porter will generate HUGE ratings on Fox. It has neither the NFL nor the NBA to worry about in early August, so it'll likely be the premier sporting event of that night.
Speaking of PBC on Fox, the numbers just came in - Williams-Hurd drew EXCELLENT viewership... shitting on BOTH ESPN telecasts of combat sports - MMA and boxing. Neil, Spence is simply on a better platform than Crawford. There's never as many eyes on ESPN as there are on Fox. And Spence is a higher priority to Haymon than Crawford is to Arum. Arum uses Bud to promote Loma. So yes, IF they do fight, Spence will be the bigger star and the A-side. It's time to admit what's painfully obvious... Bud made the wrong choice in re-signing with ESPN/TR. He shoulda gone to PBC, where Haymon woulda made him a higher priority and where he'd have access to big fights. I know, I know, ESPN is paying him well... but they haven't enhanced his profile. And Bud knew FULL WELL that re-signing with them would keep him away from Spence, Porter, Thurman, Pac, Garcia.
