I think power is a talent, but obviously there is a LOT of technique involved in punching hard too, a lot. You need to be fundamentally explosive, but good technique is pretty much why pro boxers hit so much harder than MMA fighters. So I get your point.

Not sure I'd call it skill, I suppose so, if it's something that's been honed over the years, I suppose even having perfectly crisp and powerful powershots is a skill in itself.

In this case though, we're talking about being Thurman being described as a technician of sorts, and when you think "technically skilled" you think more along the lines of Floyd.

Thurman's not THE most unskilled fighter. We've seen bigger leap amateurs than him. But yeah, only a casual would call him the most skilled. Theres EASILY more than 10 fighters in the sport more skilled than Keith.

    Pretty much :D

A friend of mine, great sax player tried talking to me about "Davontè" Wilder and how "holy shit! He's got to be the best since Tyson or maybe even Ali?!?! Is he better than Ali?!?!?!" and I just gave up on trying to politely steer him away from that and told him "I can't talk about boxing with you... what you just said to me is like some guy running up to you and raving about Kenny G"

Can somebody explain to me why Pac is fighting Thurman? Spence called Pac in the ring after the Khan fight and told Pac to his face that he wanted him next. Did Pac not want to wait? Is he ducking Spence? Are their 2 promoters at odds?

For sure being heavy handed is a talent, but to deliver punches with devastating power, it comes with technique, timing, accuracy, placement of punches, etc. Those are all SKILLS. Skills that take lots of time and repetition to develop.

Thurman is definitely a very good athlete, but his style is very dependent on that athletic ability which inevitably fades over time. Especially with layoffs involved.

Not complaining at all. I’m seriously curious as to why it went the other way. It probably came out like I was complaining because it was the second time in this thread I had to ask.

    It ain't rocket science.

Spence would beat his ass, while he's capable of beating Thurman. It's a no brainer.

Thurman already saying that he wont fight again in 2019 after this fight, and admits he'd probably retire if Manny wins.

Jesus Christ, what happened to this guy? His wife must have outstanding pussy and must cater to him, cause it was around the time he got married that he lost motivation for the sport.

Let's be honest, he's never fighting Spence.

I figured that was the reason but I’m not the biggest follower of the sport these days. Hell, I may have seen only a couple of Thurman’s fights and couldn’t even tell you if he is a belt holder or not.

So, intelligent? Yes. On top of boxing like I should be? I’m embarrassed to say, no, I’m not. In fact I borderline deserve to have my Fightbeat status revoked.

Thurman's the Most Unlikable LIKABLE Fighter in Recent Memory...

Boxing Fans have LITERALLY Watched the Drive, Ambition and Willingness to Compete Sucked OUT of Him...And Had Dude Simply STATED This and Walked Off into the Sunset w/his Wife, REED Wouldn't Have Thrown Shade @ Thurman @ All...

But Instead, he KNOWINGLY Allowed the Welterweight Division to Go STALE...REED's Sick and Tired of What Should Be Boxing's BEST Division Being Forced to Adhere to Thurman's Schedule...After 22 Months on the Shelf, Thurman Should WANT to Fight 3 Times in 2019...

By Saying he Won't Fight Again in 2019, What Thurman is REALLY Saying Is, "I Won't Be Entertaining Spence/Crawford Bouts Until SUMMER 2020 @ the EARLIEST"...We All Know he'll Need a Bout w/a Safer Opponent 1st, Early 2020...

It's REALLY Looking Like he'll Retire w/Out EVER Trying to Unify the Division and Fuck Keith Thurman for That...

I don't get the Thurman hate. Sure it sucked that he was on the shelf for so long, but his injuries were legit as far as we know. And now he's back to fighting a top guy.

I find it weird that people are way more critical of him than Bud, even though thurman resume is vastly superior

I'm critical of both. But Thurman has faced better comp than Bud. So I agree with your point.

I think with Thurman he's just done such a bad job ducking Spence. It's almost like he was too honest about it. Instead of giving himself plausible deniability with excuses and bravado, he's sort of been transparent about the fact he wants no part of Spence. Part of the issue is that before Spence came on the scene, Thurman was fairly confident and outspoken about his superiority. But with Spence's arrival, he's just sort of turned into a pussy. Or so it would seem.

    THIS...

Thurman was quite confident and outspoken about who he was calling out and how he’s “got an 0 and ain’t afraid to let it go.” He wanted ALL COMERS.

But as you said, it wasn’t until Spence arrived on the scene that Thurman started acting different. He was in fact, very transparent about it wanting to fight Spence, and that turned me and many others against him. I also felt he was milking his injuries.

The Initial Injury WAS Legit, but the Degree Thurman "Reaggravated" the Injury, Coupled w/His Marriage AND the Subsequent Down Time Rightfully Comes Into Question...

Dude Had 2 Belts @ the Time and DIDN'T Even Have a Return Date/Opponent in Sight...Once that Finally Happened (After he was Finally Stripped of 1 of the Belts), he Stated he's Open to Unifying w/Porter, but Won't Entertain Spence or Crawford Until 2020? And Now That he's Signed His 2nd Comeback Fight, he's Letting it Be Known he WON'T Fight Again Until 2020??...

By Thurman's OWN Admission, He "Trained" for the Josesito Lopez Fight @ LA Fitness...Yet He's Gonna Need a "Break" After his Fight in July, Which Will Keep Him OUT of the Ring for the Remaining 5 MONTHS of the Calendar Year???...And We ALL Know That First Fight of 2020 WON'T Be a Unification (Unless by Some Miracle Porter Defeats Spence)...

REED Thinks Fans are Sick and Tired of Adhering to Keith Thurman's Schedule and Cherry Picking, and REED KNOWS Fellow Welterweights are Sick of the Shit Too...Thurman's NOT Floyd, he's NOT Canelo...He's NOT a Big Enough Name to Do WHAT He Wants WHEN he Wants and Expect Everybody Else to Take it Up the Ass...

Motherfucker was Animated as Hell @ the Pac Presser, Talking Aggressively, Making Violent Promises and Whatnot, Yet When the Topic Turns to Unifying he Gets Whispery, Vague and Wants to TABLE it???...Keith Thurman ISN'T Good or Important Enough to Boxing to Have it BOTH Ways...
