As always with the new season upon us, it's time for a new modern fitba thread. The 2018/19 thread is no longer stickied. Enjoy.

Citeh won't win anything this season.

I hope not but they're just so damn strong they will take some beating in the league once again. Kompany has left now so Citeh will have to replace him.

They're only 'strong' by one point, though.
I predict Liverpool will win it this time, but Champions League probably Real, Barça or Juve.

Probably. Going back to back in the CL is exceedingly difficult, now matter how strong a squad you have. Oddly though Real Madrid won it three times in a row and they looked pretty poor and vulnerable each time as opposed to past versions who were clearly the best team in Europe.

I'd love it if Liverpool won it. They and Citeh were miles ahead of the rest of the pack last season. Liverpool will obviously need their key players to remain fit because they haven't got a very strong bench all round compared to Citeh. It's definitely between those two again for the title as no other teams look like they'll come close to challenging them. I mean there were 25 points between 2nd and 3rd place!

This is how it'll always be from now on: Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams (Tier 3 are your Leicester/Schalke 04/Seville/Lyon/Napoli, etc)

I mean, I'll still watch Premiership and CL because the level of football here now is either sub-par or just boring.

I really, really hope I'm wrong but I think Liverpool might have missed their chance last season. City basically have two world class teams in one squad, it's near-impossible to compete with that, Liverpool put in a gargantuan effort last season, it will be very difficult to do that all over again, where as City have the depth to repeat it.

But don't you think it's all the more impressive they were able to push Citeh to within one point of the Premiership and win the Champions League?

That, to me, is far more impressive than Citeh actually squeaking the Premiership.

My hope is that Pepatitis D can't replace Kompany.

What worries me now is that Salah, Mane, Firmino just have not had any rest.

Liverpools work for next season is cut out.

It's hugely impressive, I agree. I didn't think anybody would get all that close to City last season, and for 'Pool to push them to one point was incredible, because let's face it, with Man City's resources they're always going to set a ridiculous points total at or near the 100 mark.
I think that Liverpool's first XI is slightly better than City's, they just can't match them for depth in the overall squad. I really hope I'm wrong and that Liverpool hit those heights again, they're certainly the only side capable of challenging them.

    And in other news...

England settle for 4th place in Women's World Cup.
England had to settle for fourth place at the Women's World Cup after a frustrating 2-1 loss to Sweden in an eventful third-place play-off.
Only two senior England teams have done better than finish fourth at a global tournament - the men of 1966 and the women of 2015 - with Neville's side matching the men's World Cup achievements of 1990 and 2018.

    :D

It's sad and hilarious that you almost have to want a player to do well, but not too well.

Young talented guy goes a on a little tear and scores some nice goals. Well that was fun, but it means he'll be leaving the club.

It's not a dig at the young lad, just saying. Looks pacey, composed and threatening.

Couldn't believe it wasn't televised. I tried every channel including ESPN - The Ocho but nothing.

Fine result for rashellik last night, always a relief to get through an early july away game unscathed. Looked ropey as hell in the first half hour but it all came back pretty promptly after. Great goal by wee mikey johnstone, showing a bit of physical power which mightve been lacking a year ago.
