He won his first world title belt 21 years ago - same year DLH fought Chavez.

I dunno. I need to start thinking P4P all time lists really to see where he sits.

Pros - 8 division champ, laundry list of great fighters he's beaten, top of the game for 20 odd years, very unique aggressive style.
    Cons - possible juicer

Since we have very little common criteria as in how much single losses should affect, how we should rate eras with different amounts of fights, whether or not the suspicion of juicing should effect, whether it is more important to have a great prime or great longevity, how do we rate performances outside the best weight class etc. it is very difficult to throw out any kind of ranking.

However I'd be willing to claim that if somebody has him outside the top 20, that sounds wrong. Then again, the best 20 fighters of all time is a fucking tough bunch

Yeah it's difficult. You'd think an 8 division champion, a unique achievement, would be Top 20 somewhere.

Please. Tony Canzoneri would have smacked Thurman about. Don't cry to me about this 40 year old guy "beating" Two-Tone Thurman.

Legit, I could hurt Thurman to the body.

He's a fragile, past his best, injury laden guy who has got that 1 good win on his record.

Over a guy best known for sparking Khan with a neck shot.........at 140.

He's top 20 in my book. I'm willing to concede that IF he beat Spence and unified, he would make a compelling case for top 10.

He's one of the greater fighters of the last 50 years... but probably not top 5 in terms of the "best".

Since 1970, I feel the five best fighters the sport has seen are Duran, Leonard, Roy, Whitaker, and Floyd.

Definitely top 20. Thurman being inactive and almost getting stopped by a journeyman in his only comeback takes a lot of the shine off this win but it shows Pac is still a world class guy at 147 at 40.

The only knock you can make against Pacs all time status is that when he really had momentum after the MAB and Morales fights he lost to a faded Morales and struggled with JMM a few times. Then when he was really on top after Hatton, Cotto and Marg and he was this little phenom beating up bigger guys little JMM followed him up and iced him. He also lost his biggest fight to Floyd.

Lots of other fighters who I wouldn’t rank as highly had longer runs of dominance.

That's the point I was trying to make as well. He might rank above guys who were better/more dominant.

Hard to say without looking at a list. Top 20 sounds right to me though.

    TOP 10....

    Ali
    Louis
    Jones
    Robinson
    Leonard
    Duran
    Mayweather jr
    Whitaker
    Chavez

...just a few that come to mind immediately...some(very few) have accomplish similar/more in there careers. And a few more beat Pac p4p...

I don't rank to many/most fighter pre-1930s.....a lot of hype with those guys...So you were a 147 pounder going mano e mano against a heavyweight...so what! So you had 130 fights with 129 Ko's...so what!

Greater is arguable, but prime-for-prime I would consider Chavez BETTER than Pac.

All time great discussions depress me, because they remind me how Roy could have gone down as a consensus top 5 ATG if he had only retired after the Ruiz fight.

Top 25-30 is fair, to me

Last night's victory isn't a particularly big deal to me and the result was not surprising at all... Thurman is a non-entity even 20 years ago

Starling would never cope with that level of skill.

Thurman could be so much better if he was an active fighter.

I still think turdman would have given hell to Mayweather, if not beat him. Hes relatively fast throws ton of punches, and hes strong physically.

I pray that you mean Thurman would give the Floyd of 2019 Hell.

Cause any version of Floyd that was still even SEMI-active would pitch a shut out over Keith. Well, the OLDER version of Floyd would shut out Keith. A young Floyd would stop Thurman. I have absolutely no doubt about that.

Thurman isn't physically strong at all btw. Floyd has a big edge in physical strength.
