Yarde has a hell of a chin, and a huge heart

He seems completely unaffected by kovy punches, and he's taking a lot of them flush

Kovalev's jab has been effective all night but he's yet to detonate the right hand.

Good round for Kov. Think Yarde may be conserving his energy.

Solid shot to end it. Yarde was absolutely fucked. No energy at all.

Yarde was all spent of course but Kovalev still has some power

Kovalev’s energy and punch resistance has declined, Big time. But he can still punch. Yarde is in the mold of a Jean Pascal, and he didn’t have the stamina to keep up the pressure and inside work on Kovalev.

Canelo moving up to 175 is a mistake IMO. He might be able to beat this version of Kovalev but even that is doubtful.

Good fight, enjoyable affair. ESPN panel is trash. Sucking each other off. Yarde tried harde. Kovalev just a different class, even in his current wasted state.

He won the first 4 round and looked like a guy who had never trained a day in his life. All huffing and puffing and sweating and red faced.

Both guys look tired after only a few rounds which isn't a great sign, but at least they were actually boxing rather than constantly looking for excuses to clench.

Yarde did great work to the body wore his man down and looked for a finish when the chance presented itself. He just blew himself out. Doesn't have the conditioning. Yarde showed some tricks in there, lead hooks, little feints, good body work. Guy is in love with his physique and it doesn't help him.

The Kov that beat Pascal would have stopped Yarde in a couple rounds less with fewer problems.

KOV is borderline shot, in my opinion.

Yarde is a bum. Irish is correct that Kov is borderline shot. And I think he's ripe for the picking for the opportunistic Ginger.

The 2013 Kov would have stopped Yarde inside of 3.

Yarde isn't a bum, bit harsh that. He's quite talented and has some craft, but saying that Kovalev won because he utilised the fundamentals much better. Yarde will be one of those guys who picks up belts here and there, is always somewhere in the top 10. A good contender, basically.

Reed had a great point here. Even though it was mainly Kovalev's decline that allowed Yarde to nearly win, Yarde hadn't quite found his identity as a fighter. He spent too much time waiting and trying Floyd-like counter left hooks. Had he instead used his reflexes and physical strength to go forwards, he might have taken it.

Agree with Neil that Yarde needs a good trainer and quick, but there is talent there

British trainers all seem to be the same, they're always really good at getting fighters into tip-top shape but are lacking when it comes to actual skills and tactics at the very top level. Joe Gallagher is the worst, whenever one of his fighters takes on a genuine elite fighter the game plan always seems to be to hold a high guard, walk forwards without throwing anything, lose rounds and hope the other guy gets tired. Brendan Ingle was perhaps the outlier but even then the flaws in the Wincobank style were exposed at the very top level.
