Yeah, this is pretty much what happened. PORTER doing well early mid, yet getting caught by a big punch which changed the dynamic. Fight was closer that i tought it would be though

Yeah, I saw multiple comments on Twitter about this. Doug Fischer had Porter winning.

I've got it 7 rounds to 5 for Porter, so with the knockdown 114-113. I don't expect the judges (or much of the Twitterverse) to agree with my card. Regardless, it was a GREAT fight. Both welterweights delivered. Fight of the Year front-runner, IMO. #boxing #SpencePorter

Porter won if you don't care about clean, effective punching

    Maybe.

But Crawford did struggle with Benavidez, so there might be some things Spence could also take advantage of in a fight between them two.

I had it 117-110 for Spence, including the knockdown.

He simply landed the clean, effective punches, pushed the the pace (Often the one coming forward), and he was the one who closed strong in the championship rounds.

Porter gave him a decent scrap but it just never looked like he was winning the fight. He fought about as well as he could have, whereas Spence could improve if a rematch occurs.

I think in my mind Spence would beat Crawford but now I think someone like Hurd would beat him due to the massive size advantage (Porter was 166.5 lbs)

He didn't really struggle, just looked lacklustre, didn't lose many rounds.

    No, Spence would beat Hurd.

Porter's size didn't give Spence trouble - his footspeed and awkwardness did.

Hurd isn't awkward and he's a sloth on his feet. Spence would score on him, and turn him all night long.

Why TF are we even worried about Hurd? He's gotta make himself relevant again.

We could discuss Spence vs J-Rock, which would be a great matchup.

Crawford on paper has the tools to beat Spence, but it can't be argued that Spence has been fighting the much better comp.

Spence would look like a killer against Khan, Benavidez, and Horn.

I watched that fight. After about 3 rounds I was wondering how many teeth Spence would have left it that had been the Cotto or the Canelo of 2006.

As replacements for Mayweather go, Spence is not it.........not even close. He's simply too easy to hit by somebody who has the feet to get in and hit him.

Spence is no "Great". He's just a competent boxer, at best.

Porter is brave and has a funky style, but he's no animal.

On its own merits the fight was entertaining and much closer and better than I thought it would be.

I think Paul Williams would have beaten Spence. The gaps are there if you can reach him and keep your hands moving.

Yeah I agree........Porter had a fast lunging style and he took the gap away from Spence.

Spence has a great inside game when his man is pinned against the ropes.

I don't see the same when it's the other guy who makes it an inside game.......Spence then prefers to lean on his man.

He did a lot of leaning last night. Not holding per se, but leaning onto Porter and waiting for the ref to say something.

He punched Spence in the head and body plenty and he did none of the leaning.

I knew the minute the KD was scored that Porter had NO CHANCE on the cards but I knew still it was desperately close.

I think this is too far the other way, Spence is really good. The issue is that Porter is for the most part really horrible to watch, and people were so put off by his style they completely ignored how effective and difficult to fight it is.

I think any of the "Class of 1999" would have bashed the shit out of Spence last night. I think Mosley would have been way too fast for him. Cotto too persistent.

It's one thing to find it hard to generate offense against a guy. It's something totally different to find yourself on occasion being outjabbed by him.

I found that unseemly for a "Great" fighter.

I really was quite prepared to believe that he was a great fighter but having watched him last night I think that needs revision.

No doubt he will "Continue his Dominance" by fighting some driftwood like Khan or Garcia.

I didn't think Porter was anywhere near winning and Spence landed the best shots in almost every round

Yeah, without the KD Porter would have a case for a win or a draw.

Let's say he landed the best shot in EVERY round..........it's still possible to lose the round. And Porter was spinning him and chasing him at times too.

I didn't score it religiously but there was no way I was even close to being sure that Spence had it wrapped up by the start of the 11th.

I knew he wouldn't lose........but that's not the same as winning.

I'll be honest, I was surprised, I thought he was supposed to light the guy up.

Prime Mosley would beat Spence. We can agree on that.

    I dunno about Cotto.

Porter has a better chin than Cotto. And Cotto's stamina was worse than Oscar's.

It sounds to me like your surprise is causing you to overrate how close it actually was ... just because Porter didn't get killed doesn't mean an argument could be made that he won or even deserves a draw ... There's no case for it unless you ignore the number one criteria for judging

Porter getting the benefit of underdog syndrome - happens when a guy who was expected to get blown out does better than expected.

I would had Spence winning even without the KD.

Nah that's going to make it worse.

Garcia is a former 140lb guy.

    He's also faded a bit.

Honestly, I didn’t think it was THAT close. It was a good scrap, but it just FELT that Spence was the one landing the most of the real clean, effective punches, particularly to the body which slowed Porter down enough in the late rounds to get clipped by that left hook in the 11th.

Porter’s fight with Thurman was closer, per say. Porter wasn’t outclassed, per say. But I don’t see a case for him winning more than 4 rounds.
