Needless to say it took Clint Eastwood to get this one done.

Fat White Georgian Southern-ass Hillbilly Redneck saves the day and gets strung out by Liberal Media? Yeah I'd say Eastwood had a fight on his hands for the rights to that one.

Trailer looks good. I'm always hoping Eastwood has one more good one left in him. He has a tendency in his old age to make 3 really sloppy movies for every one that really hits. He depends more on his speed of film-making then his quality control.

I forgot Jewell died at such a young age.

To be fair to the "liberal" press, as opposed to just the "press" I guess, his profile did turn relatively quickly once people realized he wasn't the dude. Guy might have had a really good life, if his health wasn't so shitty.

I didn't really like Million Dollar Baby. Found it very cliched and corny as all hell. Liked small parts of it. Flags of Our Fathers was alright as was Letters from Iwo Jima

I know he sued NBC and either the Post or the Times in New York, as well as the local Atlanta Chips-Wrapper.

The dude does strike me as very very very odd. He does seem to have regarded himself as "Law Enforcement" despite being barely a mall cop in many regards. Clearly had bad health from day 1 and probably resided in some sort of a fantasy that was forced on him by vagaries of his physicality or lack thereof.

People just didn't want to believe that some fucking fatso had saved the day. Once you get round to discounting a guy cos he looks wrong........well anything is possible.

I remember when it happened, back in 1996, Ireland was in the midst of losing its fucking mind because Mendacious Michelle had just won 3 golds and 1 Bronze, and she was down chatting shit to the Clintons, the press in Ireland was really in this sort of euphoria, this insanity had taken over, and they sort of began to regard the Olympics as their own private affair. It was very strange. One guy called Gary O'Toole was questioning everything about the Irish girl who was winning medals and he was being gutted in the press.

They really rounded on this poor schmuck like he had interrupted their party or something. I was a schoolboy, I remember parents, commentators, TV pundits etc.....all really sticking it to this guy and praising the authorities and really bigging them up for acting so fast. They were comparing it to how fast Timothy McVeigh had been picked up by the Feds after Oklahoma.

Then it turned out he'd done fuck all wrong.........he really had just been some tubby guy who lucked out and found a bomb.

The "press" always has and will have it biases but I agree I don't think it was a purely "liberal" thing. At least I don't remember it like that. Of course I was a lot younger and not as in tune with how the media portrays events in partisan ways, particularly in America.

What I was starting to gather around the time (and before) is how much more tabloid-like every mainstream media outlet became. Once upon a time publications like the National Enquirer were disgusting jokes to anything resembling relevance, let alone responsible journalism. Somebody obviously took notice that money was being made and they needed a piece of it.

I'm sure they found a way to rationalize it at first. "The public has a right to know". Following that some people are interested and we serve the public's interest ...

The idea that the Jewell thing had fuck-all to do with "liberal" or "conservative" is revisionist nonsense fitted with the hysterical politicizing zeitgeist of our present day

It was about scooping and jumping to conclusions for the sake of THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS ... STAY TUNED BECAUSE SOMETHING MIGHT HAPPEN... absolutely not a fucking thing to do with politics

Well, we'll have to watch the movie to find out whether the media had political motivations. It usually does. But we can watch the movie to find out.

You don't think fictional films are a good place to learn about history and politics?

    No

They can be a way to maybe make people aware of a certain person or event but the filmmakers emphasize a story ... a well-researched documentary can be a great educational tool but a movie? No, that's never its purpose

And yet, Hollywood makes a lot of them. And usually it's the Right they are hostile towards.

I wish Hollywood would make more pro-fracking and climate change denier movies. You know. Feel good stories that god loving Righties who are tired of watching the "Atlas Shrugged" trilogy that keeps on coming up on my recommended lists on Amazon for some reason, want to see.

I'm just tired of Hollywood making oil company executives, gay conversion camp preachers and genocidal maniacs bad guys in their movies and TV shows. No reason for it.........no..............reason..............at...............all.

The 'trial by media' devastated Jewell emotionally, financially and physically. It took such a toll on him that it eventually killed him. While the cause of death have been classified as heart failure due to complications from diabetes, the fact remains that there wasn't any autopsy done on Jewell's body.

As for the Liberal Media, guess who are boycotting this movie and who are spreading the word of those groups? They have succeeded as the film made only $5 million this weekend and is one of Clint Eastwood's lower opening numbers ever.

Unlike The Post that got a LOT of media coverage and was nominated for everything under the sun, it is very unlikely that 'Richard Jewell' will get the same treatment even if it is a better film.

Many obese diabetics have lived long lives...and get an autopsy.

    I am undistructive.
