I have a great memory of watching it with her, eating a boiled potato out of bowl with oxtail soup dumped over it. It was pissing rain outside and my dad had gone somewhere and I was watching it her and her sister. She must have been in her late 60's by then which I thought was OLD.

Monkey would burst onto the screen and her sister would be like "Look at this Jap quare-hawk..........be the hokey fly"...........I couldn't have been happier.....

    ....weird times.

I too, have great memories of watching it with my brother and my grandparents, every other Friday night or whatever, Monkey > Superstars > It´s A Knockout (or the vastly superior European ´Jeux sans Frontiers´), after which Grandma would ask ´Fish & Chips, boys?´, so the three of us would walk 10mins to the Fish n Chip shop - my brother would have cod, chips and mushy peas.

I, naturally, ordered Hake with my chips, with just salt´n´vinegar.

    ´Gggggggrrreeeaaaattt!´

Yeah you can't get Hake in the Fish Shop now. All the Merluza gone to Spain.

I prefer Cod in any event.

    BREXIT!

Nah, I´m lying - I also had Cod, but sometimes, weirdly, fishcake!?
But this particular fish n chip shop was excellent: family-run business for 30 years, same people frying/serving throughout, queues around the corner, etc, then they sold up in the late 1990s, moved to Spain (where they all probably had a great retirement) and the place was, last time I was there, run by a miserable, fat Greek guy who subsequently sold pizzas, kebabs, as well as truly awful chips, etc, well youprobably guess the rest.

Still, Friday night for entertainment - it was ace!

Halal and Rape, most likely, were the next steps.

There's a kebab place around the corner from me. Fuck them.............£6.50 for "Scampi and Chips"..........Chips BANG of plastic for some reason and the scampi is basically deep fried rabbit-shit.

There's a bunch of Syrians that run a Fish and Chip shop up the road. Every night when I walk the dog I see one of them absolutely polishing the floor of the shop at closing. Proper outfit. They actually try hard and have the idea. They use the proper paper and cardboard boxes. None of this fucking orange foam nonsense.

Never buy chips from a Halal Turkey joint. They don't know shit about anything other than how to fry the turkey, get you a cab and maybe a 14 year old homeless white bird.

I don´t miss any food from the UK that I used to eat but I do miss fish n chips - can´t get them here.
I´m gonna get some in December when I return.

Arabic food here is very popular - totally opened my eyes to that cuisine for sure.

Speaking of Arabia, smartly moving back on-topic - does anyone in the UK even care about the FIFA Club World Championship?

Liverpool v Flamengo would be a match I´d fly to Qatar and watch.

Some fucking Gambino now saying that Alex Ferguson was rewarded with a gold rolex worth £30,000 to throw a match against Juventus.

    What a load of shite.

First off, Ferguson wouldn't lose a game if he could help it. He's football thru and thru. Secondly, Ferguson is Scottish, he'd not accept payment AFTER the fact FFS.

    Utter nonsense.

Football agent claimed he gave Alex Ferguson gold watch to fix match, court told

Giuseppe “Pino” Pagliara, 64, made the claim in a conversation secretly recorded by an undercover reporter, the prosecution said. Opening the trial, Brian O’Neill QC said Pagliara was taped boasting that the former Manchester United manager had accepted the gold watch in exchange for conspiring to fix the result of a Champions League match against Juventus.

If I recall, United didn't encounter Juve all that often. Twice in 1999, and United drew and won those two games, and Ferguson was NEVER going to throw either game for anything, United were after the treble.

So when did United play Juve in the CL for United to "throw" the game?

    That sounds like nonsense

Besides, wtf is 30,000 to Ferguson?

That's what you pay a fellow like ME to throw a match

Exactly. It's what you pay a hopeless player to kick the ball out for a few corners that somebody in Asia is betting on.

Ferguson was on a kings ransom and he'd never throw a match- he hated losing. It also suggests that United were so strong they'd {Juventus} need to pay to get past United. For a lot of Fergusons reign, especially the early years, until about 1999, United were always weaker than Juventus and not until the late 2000's did United become a force again in Europe. In fact LIVERPOOL, who were struggling, actually beat Juventus in Europe before United came on strong again.

It's like those hopeless club fighters in the 2000's were saying that they had been paid to take dives vs Kirk Johnson...guys name was Andrew Smiley or something.

His story was gaining traction until somebody pointed out that Kirk Johnson could have smashed the guy so easily he'd have to be paid NOT to beat him.

Utter nonsense all around, can't believe this shit gets printed. It's total fantasy land shit.

"Gold Rolex"..........yeah. OK. Ferguson could buy one a week, the money he was on.

I hope so. Time difference is only 2 hours?

I was pretty intoxicated for the first fight and had to watch it again the following morning to remember what happened.
