Hold your horses. Canelo isn't 3-0, the first GGG fight was a draw, remember? If we are going by official results, let's do it all the way That said, I am a fan of Canelo. Yes, Golden Boy is annoying and Dazn has taken it to another level, but Canelo himself is a damn good fighter. There are not THAT many middleweight champs who have gone up and knocked out legit lt. heavies, shopworn or not
I can't think of any who had this much leverage in their favor and the "legit lt heavy" was already twice KOd beforehand I know you're doing the Ugotabe thing of trying to play devils advocate but cmon
Be it Ugotabe thing if you will. I'm just saying no matter how pissed we are about the broadcast and promotion, we shouldn't COMPLETELY overlook the fact that Canelo accomplished something, too
I picked him to win by stoppage... how impressed should I be that he won in that fashion? The fact is that you can't just say "well, not too many middleweights have done this" without first acknowledging that you can't find one that's ever been rolling so loaded a pair of dice ... how many middleweights could've done something similar or better with all of this in their favor? I bet quite a few
Perhaps many could have done the same, sure. Still pretty few have, and there should be a limit of how much we BASH Alvarez after such victory. I believe everyone here understood the conditions of the fight without me repeating them
You can't compare it to anybody else though ... so "pretty few" doesn't really mean anything I don't think Alvarez winning this fight is a particularly big deal. I expected it given the condition of his opponent and the unprecedented degree of favoritism he receives. I think plenty of good middleweights would KO this Sergey Kovalev if they had all of this in their favor and quite a few of them would do it more easily than this
I don't think we disagree about much here. My main point was that Canelo is, fight by fight, proving to be a pretty formidable fighter as opposed to being a complete buffoon and media creation as he is displayed by some
So apparently they showed they UFC fight at the MGM until it was finished and then Canelo and Kov fought when the UFC main event finished. Crazy
alvarez reminds me of a delahoya. a pretty good and talented fighter who ascended to become the biggest draw in the sport. good enough to be competitive against most guys, and popular enough to pick and choose who to face and when to face them. falls short against the elite but managed to keep it semi close and get some bullshit decisions. also knowing he doesnt have to do as much to win rounds/fights allows him to lay back and counter which is what he prefers and thrives on. kinda like during a delahoya fight when merchant or lampley mentioned that delahoya wasnt doing much and foreman basically said, "doing nothing is ALOT for him"
So weird going through the posts on here and some of you guys thought the fight seemed off as you were watching it. I watched it this morning and I was thinking the exact same thing. I was like Kov isn't putting his full weight behind those punches and the commentators were banging on about how they had it close or had Canelo slightly ahead. Lol, Seriously? You're fucking kidding me? Kov was ahead on my card. Perhaps a lot of Kov's weak ass punches were being blocked but Canelo was not active enough for me. He was winding up mainly and even missed a fair bit too. That doesn't win you rounds. The KO was legit and Kov looked hausted, but still, something just seemed rotten about the whole fight.
REED's Posting History Shows His Allegiance to Canelo and REED Agrees w/You... The Thing Is, Canelo's Accomplishments are Being CHEAPENED by Either Himself OR the People Around Him... The Boxing Media was Complicit in BURYING the Rehydration Clause Until Kovalev Struggled to Make Weight...Keith Idec is the "Face" of BoxingScene and was Part of a DAZN Panel Last Night, Which (In Hindsight) FULLY Explained to REED Why he Hadn't Seen a Single Article on B-Scene Regarding the Clause... Why BURY News of the Clause? Because it CHEAPENS the Accomplishment... Beyond that, Canelo is Being FALSELY Packaged as a "4-Weight World Champion", Which he ISN'T...Canelo Beat Rocky Fielding for the WBA SUPER Supermiddleweight Title (Dumb, Right), But All the While, Callum Smith was the Reigning, Recognized WBA Regular Champion... What Canelo Won was a Sub-Title to the Belt Rightfully Owned by Smith, Nonetheless, the Boxing Media is Again Complicit in Promoting a FALSE Narrative... Canelo is a Damn Good Fighter and his Improvement is OBVIOUS...But the Protective Bubble Around Him UNDERMINES His Own Ability...And Even Though REED is a FAN of Canelo's the TRUTH Has to Always Come Before Our Personal Biases Bruh... REED
That one hour delay totally changed Kovalev's gameplan from guns blazing and instead opted for a jab and move strategy for 12 rounds
Kovalev used to be a bad man. He was exposed a little bit by Andre Ward, then he fell apart as drinking and ageing took their toll. He went from being very good to very fraught. He was damn near KO'd by a limited bodybuilder in his last fight. Let's not make any bones about it, a finished fighter is FINISHED, no matter how good he ever used to be. Ali was the greatest, and Holmes and Berbicks wins over him count for shit. Nobody should ever say Holmes or Berbick are ATG's "cos they beat Da Greatesss".........because they never beat him. They beat an animated cadaver. Same for this Canelo fraud. Clauses, terms, conditions, limits, underscoring, bent judges............against guys that are total shadows of what they once were. I take nothing from Canelo but I also give him nothing, this is epic stage management and we all know it. Listen, the guy has red fucking hair. He's probably 70% Irish. And he can still go and fuck himself. I hate cheats. I always have done. But I hate their shills and their assistants more.
"Canelo" in Spanish is the masculine word for cinnamon, which is a common nickname for people with red hair. His mother, Ana Maria, also has red hair. In Mexico, it is common for people to associate red hair with the Irish soldiers who fought for Mexico in the Saint Patrick's Battalion during the Mexican–American War Still won't root for the guy.
Agree with this, but what last night's performance was really like is several of Tua's wins where he stalked around, got behind, and then won with a big energy-using KO.
In the 1950's, Boxing used to be called the "S0-Called Sport of Professional Boxing"...........and then it made great strides in the following decades. Now it's back to being bent. Simple as. We got guys fucking dying in the ring for peanuts, Youtubers making millions in staged events, and now our main events are total shams and baloney all for money. I love boxing training, like the sport, hate the business. I won't watch too much more of it. Fucking more fun watching amateurs now.
Yeah I mean the guy looks like my great uncle Joe when he was young... I love my Uncle Joe but still...
