weird that the Matrix is number 35 when it's probably the highest rated imdb movie of the whole list

This thread was also made by a woman.

Okay, maybe he’s just an effeminate man but he’s trying.

Only ones I saw from that list are:

Liked: (In order from fav to least fav)
    The Hurt Locker
    Eve’s Bayou
    The Piano
    Clueless
    Point Break
    Fast Times
    Monster
    Big

    Ok:
    The Virgin Suicides
    Lost In Translation

    Hated:
    American Psycho
    Zero Dark Thirty
    Selma
    The Babadook

Clueless, Point break and Fast Times probably deserve better treatment but all suffer from aging. Monster and Big are both good but kind of mood killers.

I’m not going to add Matrix to this list because I’m pretty sure this film was done when they were the Wachowski brothers. The things one does as a trans woman should be credited as such after their transition not before.

A wise man said “opinions and tastes vary” this is no exception. I know American Psycho has a love fest with most members on this board but it flew over my head and didn’t connect. I thought Zero Dark Thirty was poorly done, felt rushed and missed the mark.

Of course, I wouldn’t argue against anyone who feels differently.

American Psycho took a lurid, pretentious piece of literature and turned it into a dark comedy brilliantly

  13. Book´s awesome.
    Movie is good.

Harlan County, USA was a brilliant documentary

I object to the inclusion of transgender directors who were fully male at the time they made the films in question ... the entire point of this is that women don't often get the opportunities to direct that men do BECAUSE THEY ARE WOMEN... The Matrix directors were MEN, they didn't have some sex bias barrier to overcome... the inclusion of such people on a list with the likes of Ida Lupino (who was directing films at a time when women were treated like dogshit in Hollywood) is despicable

    The book is tedious

  16. The book is written by a man and the movie is directed by a woman.

    Quelle surprise. BP

The fuck's that got to do with anything? I put off watching the movie for ages because I didn't like the book very much (with the exception of some of the long-winded bits about bad 80s pop) and when I finally watched it I was surprised at how good it was

I didn't even know who the director was at the time

  18. Fair enough.

The Ascent and Beau Travail are great films. I also like Cleo from 5 to 7.

Are you saying that in your opinion the movie was better than the book? Because it’s pretty rare that happens. Only time it’s happened for me was “Let The Right One In” but in that instance I saw the film before reading the book so that may have been the reason.

    In my opinion yes

I personally am not that big on Sofia Coppola, at least not The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation. I thought they were okay but not great, although Scarlett Johannson’s body is.

I haven’t seen most of that list. Big is good although it is actually pretty creepy. Fast Times was pretty good, Sean Penn seems to have no sense of humor for someone who played an iconic comedic character.

I saw Near Dark was a kid and liked it, I didn’t know Katheryn Bigelow directed it. Point Break was a terrific action movie, that chase scene is great. The remake was bland.

My favorite movie on the list is American Psycho.
