How come you have yet to demonstrate any of this understanding?

  2. cdogg has a point Double L - bar Dylan, you've listed/mentioned very few good/great songs or albums by good/great artists.

I suppose Jackson Browne is okay though...

It's not just that... it's the strident statements ... calling things "innovative"... "ambitious"... "subtle"... making accusations of orthodox fascism, rote mechanization etc

    Backed up with NOTHING...

Bullshit. They may lack the ability to articulate the mechanisms through which the beauty is achieved but thats as far as it goes. The ability to, say, choose music to aptly score a piece of visual art, or put together a top class & interesting dj set is at least as much a demonstration of a fine grained appreciation for music as anything else and requires none of the 'fundamental understanding' you're valorizing

Sorry, no... if they wish to pretend they are in a position to declare things as "innovative", they have to support that position with substance rather than more verbose nonsense ... if they wish to use phrases like "outside the lines", then they should be able to articulate that assertion in a meaningful way ... people who equate knowledge/experience with "rigid orthodoxy" are people who don't know what the fuck they are talking about and don't like it when they encounter someone who can smell their bullshit

Saw bjork last night, must admit it was disappointing. Her new stuff, which comprisrd nearly the entire set, pushes melodic and rhythmic 'complexity' to the point of being amelodic and arhythmic. Songs in no particular key with no discernible time signature. The visuals accompanying the stage show were also obtrusive and distracting then she finished with what, for me, was the coup de fucking grace - a 3 minute video of Greta. Mercy. As a solitary highlight, pretty much the only thing she played more than 2 years old happened to be my absolute fave, pagan poetry:

A friend gave me a free spare to see idles last night. Hottest ticket it in town, my favourite gig venue in the world, why not. Then the reasons why not came back to me - dear lord the lyrics, the jejune,right-on lefty preaching: its like PC principle bought some really cool clothes and started a punk band. Mate, we get it racists & homophobes are bad and the nhs is good! Youre not like those other people - here's a fucking pin badge. When i first heard them i briefly thought a few of the lyrics were clever satires on the worst excesses of the intersectionally-right-on brigade but there's no clevernees or satire there. I bet it helps them crush loads of puss, bro.

Honestly, schmHut, you really need to make some 'progress' with your musical creed.

Sounds like the score to two public school boys roughly frolicking in a meadow of wild flowers before bumming for the very first time
