Christmas Carol (Alastair Sim version, Albert Finney version, George C Scott version... all terrific)

As a kid I liked the old Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman TV movies, Charlie Brown, the old Laurel and Hardy “Babes In Toyland”, etc

Also that movie “Perfect Christmas” where Panchyprsss and his whole entire family are kicked to death by agitated reindeer ... and then Santa pisses on their corpses while yelling “HOOOOO HO HO!!! MERRRRRRY PISSMAS” ... great film

    Good list

Gremlins was dark as hell. They made the sequel more of a comedy and a spoof on sequels but the first is pretty dark and violent.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation ( 1989 ) I was never a fan of Chevy Chase, but I did enjoyed this one.

No it’s not. It’s an action film about terrorists that takes place around the Christmas holiday. It’s good to watch around Christmas time but technically I wouldn’t consider it a Christmas movie.

Die Hard is considered an action, and Xmas classic by now.

    It's a goddamn Xmas movie.

Since you fucks you wanna be so snobbish about what constitutes a "real" Xmas movie, then I guess my favorite "actual" Xmas movie is Christmas Vacation.

Shoulda stopped at that. Vegas Vacation was fucking AWFUL.

Hmm...makes me think why people consider 'Home Alone' a Christmas movie? it just takes place at that time of the year just like 'Die Hard', but it has nothing to do with Christmas. The plot could had happened on Halloween and nothing would have changed except for the house decoration.

Home Alone is a Christmas movie ... the whole subplot with the neighbor... the family and Kevin learning what’s important, etc

totally a Christmas movie because Christmas is part of the plot

Christmas doesn’t fucking matter to Die Hard

I think die hard i think xmas. I think eyes wide shut i think xmas. Movies are more than their scripts and plots its a visual medium and the visual choices suffuse the mood, subconscious associations etc.

Its like compiling a list of classic 'new york films' then bitching that the city itself wasnt integral to the plot. I mean aye, maybe taxi driver or ghostbusters could have been set in Detroit or Miami but it wouldve rendered both very different films, and whatsmore our collective cultural idea of the cities themselves would've been altered by the choices. The setting of a movie is completely tied up with it.

I didnt like that, surprisingly. At times Bill murray legitimately seemed like he was having a breakdown to the point it wasnt comfortable let alone funny
