David Bowie or David Bowie?

  1. Bowie as in 'cow' or Bowie as in 'hoe'?

As in cow. And its a scottish surname so my vote counts thrice.

  4. Hummm...I always used the David Cowie method when I was a kid but now all I hear people saying is David Hoe-ie/Tomato-ie pronunciation

The surname and the knife he took the name from is most often pronounced Boo-ey

But when it comes specifically to him it’s generally pronounced Boh-ey

Nobody other than maybe some ABSOLUTE CUNT in Glasgow has ever said “David Bow-ey” (like cow)

Gaelic surname, BAM-MEMBER, meaning yellow or fair. I dont cut about telling Italians how to pronounce italian names or poles how to pronounce Polish names - you will stand down or i will run you through, sir.

IT’S NOT EVEN HIS FUCKING NAME, Absolute Bawjaws

His name was David Jones. He named himself Bowie (so he wouldn’t be confused with Davey Jones of The Monkees) and chose “Bowie” after one of these:

Ironically, the knife inventor was known as “Boo-ey” and knife enthusiasts call it that but it’s almost universally mispronounced as Bow (flow) and so the same naturally occurs with David

But Bow as in “Cow”??? ONLY JOBBYHEIDS say that

I know his born name, im not panch. Its immaterial- he chose an existing surname with an existing correct pronunciation and an existing etymology. If he went around telling people to pronounce 'Jones' 'John--ess' we'd rightly tell him to toddle on and i'll tell YOU the same, weesacks. You may take oor lives but you may never take oor names then pronounce them STUPIT.

    Right, like I said

He named himself after the knife which means he was technically supposed to be called David BOO-ey

But everybody (save wanks in Scotland) said BOH-ey instead

    /Thread

  27. No, NOT /Thread - the titile was merely just to get people talking about David Bowie.

And your above reply implies there are three pronunciations:
    Cow-ee
    Hoe-ee
    Boo-ee

    There ARE ...

But 99% say the one in the middle and 0.9% say the last one because of the knife ... the remaining 0.1% are faggots in Scotland
