Didn't see the highlight but apparently Everton were denied a good goal at the end by VAR.

I must say Olly's post match interviews have become a thing of rare beauty, he's the new Bullshit Bingo King

"I felt we controlled the game, for large parts"

"That's what VAR is there for".

"The Referee got a lot of big calls correct/wrong"

"I felt we deserved to win".

    "We came back so strongly".

    "Liverpool didn't win here either"

"They were hanging on. We didn't get the decisions".

"I felt we made some changes and took control".

"They were lucky with their goal".

"I felt it was a little bit offside".

"We were missing some big players".

"Nobody will want to play us after todays performance"

"We are still in 3 competitions".

Big game later on today between two teams that never had to play on a cold Tuesday night in Stoke.

Real got a bit lucky with the opener and Braithwaite could have scored for Barcelona but on the balance of things Real seem to have deserved that. Late breakaway added a bit of gloss.

Watching Beckham's Inter Miami against Los Angeles. LA are big favourites to win this.

Carlos Vela with a lovely finish. 1-0. Saw the keeper off his line and chips the ball over him. Superb.

    LOL remember him?

Old Wenga was sure that Vela was going to do the business for Arsenal.

Didn't work out, Vela was on his Velo before too long.

I hate off weeks for these lame ass cup games. Just a waste of time. Every country's top division should not be involved and instead of give one of their available top premiere division spots to the tournament winner, or put them in a playoff for a chance at one.

It would mean a hell of a lot more to 2nd and 3rd division clubs. What would you rather have, a chance to leapfrog right to the top or languish where you are but with the "prestige" of having your name on a trophy? Similar to teams already in the top flight. You're supposed to be excited about facing a team from a town you've never heard of?

Then let's say you won it but overall you had a crap season and are miles away from a CL spot. Yeah, boys let's hold a parade to celebrate this accomplishment. It meant a lot in 1982 so let's pretend it still does. I'm sure thirty years from now everybody will talk about that magical time in 2020 when we finished tied for 10th but won the domestic cup.

Cups stopped mattering when the CWC was ended ... it’s all about the champions league unless you’re the best team in a second rate league, in which case it’s all about the Europa

I've always said national cups should guarantee a CL spot for the winner instead of 4th place. Then you'll suddenly see teams taking it seriously again.

What if a second division team wins it? Do they get promoted and a CL spot?

I still think it might be better if domestic cups were open to everybody but the top division. If you're already in a solid CL spot then it still kind of irrelevant.

It's also a distraction. Imagine you have a solid chance to win a title. This week you've just earned a tough 3 points. Next week you travel to Spain go up against Messi & co in the CL. Two weeks from then you're against somebody two points ahead in the table with a chance to move up even further in the table. Before that however you have a midweek game and against Farmers FC. If you send out second string squad you're criticized for "disrespecting" your opponent and the "prestigious historic" competition. If you lose you get roasted by the press as you should win anyway with more expensive players. If you send out a full strength squad and your best player gets injured you've totally jeopardized your chance in next (actually) important matches in the top league and CL.

All of this for a game you didn't want to play in the first place.

Promotion/relegation is still decided by league standings, but if a lower league team won the FA Cup they'd get into the Champions League spot. They are a 'champion' after all. I mean it's possible for a club to win the CL and get relegated in the same season theoretically, it's unlikely of course but you would then have a second division team playing in the CL the next season.

Another spanking for Liverpool tonight. Lot of big names out there, so what's the excuse one wonders.

Not taking chances, stupid mistakes, etc.

Smells a bit crisissy to me. Need to beat Bournemouth this weekend or the bookies will be having another look at us.

    City were 250-1, then 80-1, now 66-1.

That's what the Cup Winners Cup was there for, to get rid of the possibility that teams like Sunderland or Pompey or Stoke {back in 2010} might suddenly be in the Champions League.

I mean, that would fucking wreck the "Cabal" wouldn't it!!!!

I'm not sure about the money difference but i think it would be much better for a club to have at least one guaranteed year of top flight football rather than getting smoked and sent home in short order playing CL.

Not sure that it's a crisis. More of a blip for me. Bound to have it. They've won the league so there's no concerns over that. Would you say winning the one trophy would be considered major disappointment for Liverpool?

No, because it's the one trophy they have been after since decades.

They got the CL final 2018, won it in 2019, so that's a quarter of all finals we've ever been in.........more than in keeping with normal standards for a big side and on a pay with Bayern over the same period, better than Chelsea, United etc. Basically Liverpools first two seasons back in the tournament they got a final and a win. It's nice to keep winning but perspective is required.

Regards the rest, I agree entirely. Blip rather than Crisis but Blips give birth to crises and once rot starts it's hard to stop.

And of course, they've played at such an insane level for so long, a year, basically, that eventually you zig when you needed to zag and you hit a flat spot.

But Bournemouth will need chastizing this weekend, regardless.
