Burnout must be it. As you said, they have been playing at such a high level for so long, it's difficult to keep that level up and having kept it up for so long it's caught up with them. Plus they've been playing the same XI for long spells too. I think more rotation is needed in the league but with that the results will likely not be as consistent. You know since Henderson has been out of the team, they haven't looked like the same team either.

You have to fancy Liverpool to beat Bournemouth at home, but Bournemouth are fighting for their lives and they like to play an attacking type of football. Liverpool could struggle against them.

That's why I said all this "relegation threatened" stuff was BS.

These guys are relegation threatened because they don't apply themselves until it's too late {and they aren't good enough regardless} so they go crazy like Wigan used to for years...go crazy in the last few games.

Howe will be telling his guys......this is it, this is your shot, this is your chance...you'll never get a better chance to beat this lot.

As a fan I have been here before though, things just sort of come unstuck. The difference is we have a few points gap this time.

I won't rest till this thing is done. If Liverpool somehow blew it, I'd be about £10,000 better off.

WOW worst goal ever just scored by Man City. Hugely fortuitous. Scumbags.

Aye, thirteen points behind... looking bleak. It’s very similar tae last season, at Christmas time everything looked rosy and noo it’s turned tae manure. Livvy came close tae beating Celtic, mind.

Rooney faces Man Utd tonight in the cup. I wonder if he'll score the winner and Derby go through...

Can anyone else see MLS rivalling the big european leagues over the next decade or so? The playing standard still looks mediocre but every time i see the stadiums, fans etc it looks class & feels close to some sort of tipping point? And, its america innit... it doesnt have to get anywhere near as big as nfl to become a major player in world fitbaw.

Not enough home grown talent for starters. Being it's the 5th major sport (and a distant 5th) kids growing up typically don't care enough about it. Poor inner city kids have better options when considering a way to make big money at sport. Colleges award scholarships to basketball and (American) football players. They don't care about soccer. Poor rural kids are probably told it's a sport for communists.

I think MLS might be also repeating the same mistake it did in years past. Expanding too quickly and watering something down which is already pretty watery.

Firstly, unlike England/Spain/Germany etc, the US doesn’t produce elite footballers so in order to become an actual rival to the big leagues, MLS would have to rely HEAVILY on imports

Second, the league structure prevents the kind of spending required to snag big name players

Third, even if they wished to liberalize that structure, where exactly is the money coming from? MLS gets only a small amount revenue from TV (compared with the elite leagues) and most of the sold-out stadiums are small capacity (which, coupled with relatively inexpensive tickets explains the sell-outs)

what you’re describing could happen one day... but it’ll be ages longer than 10 years

Yep, but without as much money and history.

Teams in Nashville, Kansas City, Minnesota and Vancouver? If you walked around those cities and asked random people i'd bet 99 out of 100 people couldn't name a single player on their local team. That one in a hundred who could name one probably saw them on TV advertising for a local car dealership or furniture store.

I also have to wonder about the "passionate" fans in cities like Seattle and Portland. Huge portion of them are probably douchey hipsters that aren't interested in sport. Being soccer isn't considered main stream the appeal to them is feeling like they're unique supporting a football club. If a major league cricket team started operating in town they'd move onto supporting them.

Plus a lot of it just feels like imitation ... they want to be the way they see Brit/European fans being with their teams... but they don’t share the histories that make such passion possible... It feels artificial

Here's how i picture an avid Timbers/Sounders fan. Probably goes online complaining about the lack of craft beer and vegan food option at the stadium. He was also a fan before you were a fan.

I watched a Rapids game the last time I was in Colorado and yeah the "hardcore fans" with the conductor guy leading the chants was pretty cringe.

I know the tickets are cheap as is but i wonder what percentage of spectators at the games got them for free.
