Seriously, using youtube subs as a proxy - newcastle united (who by my estimation have always and still have more actual fans) have 74k subs; Man City have 2.4 million. Fucking joke. More like a trending netflix series than a fitbaw club

 

I think it's a bit more like a very long running TV series they never heard of. Some ludicrously rich guy somehow purchases an individual TV series and hires a bunch of A list movie actors to appear on it. It gets more attention, goes up in the ratings and people pretend they always followed it.

Yep bots and fly by night accounts. For a price you can purchase X amount of "followers" online. Youtube every once in a while does a purge to mitigate it. Essentially they run an algorithm in an attempt to thin them out. A lot of advertisers (or the company that hires them) are ignorant and look at basic stats like page views or subscribers so they figure it's similar to TV ratings.

If they did a tiny bit of research they'd soon find out thousands and thousands of those supposed followers are not only not real, but not even based on the same continent.

What do you think will happen...delay the season for a month or so, postpone Euro 2020 to next year and then complete the rest of the season up to say August? And then start next season a tad later than normal? I think it would be crazy to call an end to the season now to be honest, especially when you have to decide who goes up and down and European trophies still up for grabs. Obviously depends on how much worse this virus gets.
