@154 obviously In the eWBSS tournament Wright actually miraculously knocked Ray out, but I don't expect that to happen if they fought for real I do think it would take a while from Ray to figure it out, as Wright's turtle defense, long reach and solid jab are difficult style for anyone to look good against. However I'd expect Leonard to overcome him clearly in the end, about 8-4 or 9-3
It'd probably look like Leonard-Kalule, minus Wright getting stopped like Kalule. Kalule wasn't as good as Wright, but he was an extremely solid technician, and Leonard took him apart without too many problems. Wright would be outclassed.
Wright went from underrated to overrated. His best victories were against two guys who had seen better days at 147 and 154, in Trinidad’s case. Harry Simon beat Wright. He’s outclassed against Leonard, even if he’s on PEDs.
I don't think Wink is overrated, SAVE for that ridiculous eTournament outcome of stopping Leonard... which isn't to be taken seriously. I think Wright is generally correctly rated... a HOF level guy, but not an all time great. I've never really seen anybody pick him over a true ATG. He's way out of his depth with a prime Leonard. A better matchup would have been Wright vs Norris.
Winky could provide problems for just about anybody. Not unsolvable ones however, and definitely not for Ray Leonard who was probably one of the best in history at dealing with different styles.
I think a prime Norris presents some of the same challenges Simon did. I'd probably go with Norris to win that.
What year was this? I figure Winky would have kicked Norris' ass had they fought circa 97. But then, Norris was no longer the fighter he was in the early 90s.
So around the time Wright lost to Vasquez. On paper, Norris would have won in 94-95, but I'm not very surprised if he didn't want Wright. Terry wasn't exactly interested in proving himself against young guys his own size.
