The worst was her ripoff of Patrice O'Neal. "The Poltergeist"

O'Neal was an original, comedic genius so he delivered it flawlessly. While that fat, no talent whore stole the joke and delivered it in the most bland fashion possible.

Hey Wilma I saw a Turkish romantic comedy on Netflix the other day it was great. It was called "When Hairy met hairy"

Good call on Buress, he has several stand-ups out there and is pretty consistently funny. Jamie Foxx’s HBO special was good too.

I don’t know how we went from best sitcoms to rating black stand-up comedians, but we definitely got there.

Are there any good Asian comedians?

Ronny Chieng is probably the best Asian stand-up I've seen.

That Asian chick who's pregnant all the time, is awful

Ken Jeung used to be funny a long time ago. Now he's just an awful cartoon, and the time he tried stand-up was just awful

Randall Park is a good comic actor

I don't find Schumer funny, but then again, I don't dig Britney Spears' music nor Cosmopolitan either.

I find it weird that people (not you) judge crap that is not directed to them at all. Schumer obviously speaks to youngish women and we are not supposed to get it.

The same with Eddie Murphy's old sets. I can tell he is talented but I don't get half of the cultural references, usage of accents etc his set is based on. The target audience however seems to enjoy it

I understand what you are saying, but my 20'ish liberal college educated daughter thinks she's trash to.

I think she had something when she was first coming up, and her Comedy Central show she had years ago, was not the worst of those shows in that format, and I didn't hate "Trainwreck", but she has gotten progressively worse at what she does over the years, IMO.

I think this is a ridiculous take. Comedy is supposed to be relative to everyone. If Schumer, Murphy or anyone else’s jokes aren’t hitting it isn’t because of cultural reference it’s because the person didn’t get it or it’s just not a good joke.

Also you’re the first person I’ve ever heard claim Murphy’s jokes were referencing uncommon cultural. I’m sorry but unless you’re a foreigner that’s bs and you’re going to have to explain exactly which jokes went over your head because of cultural references or accents.

#1. No, it's not. That's exactly why different types of comedians draw different types of crowds. It's a pretty common take.

I think "The Big Bang Theory" is some of the unfunniest shit ever put on television. Millions of people obviously think it's funny, otherwise it wouldn't be the most watched television show of the last decade or so. I'll crack you in the fuckin' teeth if you think it's because "I don't get it". :No2:

#2. Ugot is from Finland. Regardless, that's irrelevant to the question at hand.

I’m sorry but you’re just wrong about this. Just because a comedian draws more of a particular type of crowd doesn’t mean that is who he’s focused on, it just means that’s who it relates to the most. A comedian is trying to make his jokes relevant to everyone, whether it happens or not is a different discussion. You’re right though that there are many reasons a joke might not hit besides what I originally listed.

    How’s that?

Why on Earth should the same humor try to speak for everyone, when different music, fashion, movies, TV-shows, games etc are directed at different crowds?

Just because something is focused on a certain demographic doesn’t mean they’re hoping only that demographic will consume it. That’s not only racist but it’s not a very smart business move. Likewise comedian’s jokes will touch on certain demographics but if a black comedian makes a joke about white people it doesn’t mean he doesn’t want the white people to laugh at the joke too. It’s a joke, it’s for everyone to laugh at. You ask any comedian that and he’ll tell you. Same thing with all the other stuff you mentioned, you really think Wu Wear or even FUBU didn’t want white people buying their clothes?

Yeah. Eddie Murphy was funny to just about everyone in America. That's why he was so famous.

But Zara or Gucci doesn't expect men to wear their dresses, even though that would benefit them economically.

If Eddie Murphy makes a joke about a ice-cream truck, I might not catch the whole drift of it because we didn't have them here.

And if we get back at the subject, if Amy Schumer makes a joke about her period and million women laugh, she is not necessarily totally disappointed even if men don't laugh

The dress point you made is borderline trolling if not stating the obvious. I already mentioned that you get a pass on cultural references if, like in your case the joke is not part of your culture.

Schumer likely wouldn’t be disappointed if some men don’t laugh at her period joke because the simple fact is some men are going to laugh at it just like some women aren’t going to. The reason she isn’t disappointed is because the joke is for everyone and some people will find it funny (both men and women) and some people won’t. You’ve never laughed at an Amy Schumer joke? Because I sure have and going by your logic that must mean I’m a white woman.

I don't know what we even debate anymore.

Schumer's jokes are mainly directed at young women. If some men laugh, that's cool, if they don't, it doesn't mean the jokes had failed.

It is just the same as chick movies, Britney Spears' music and everything else. Some guys might like those too.

You began to claim how humor is totally different from other art and entertainment, and so far you haven't given any actual reason.

First of all show me where I claimed humor is a different art, never said that. Secondly you stated Schumer’s jokes are so not directed at us that we shouldn’t even be judging her comedy. I claimed -and still do- that that is a ridiculous and maybe even a sexist take. I can judge Schumer’s comedy the same as any other comedian because for the hundredth time, comedy is universal. Comedy can be about particular demographics but not for particular demographics. I get you may not remember what we were debating because you seem to be changing your original view.
