I agree. Carlos Monzon and Marvin Hagler never moved up as they knew they couldn't beat the light heavyweight champions - Bob Foster for Monzon and Michael Spinks for Marvin. But I thnk Gennady would have had a decent shot and should have.

Foster was on the decline after 1972 - Monzon might have very well beat him circa 1974.

Hagler? Yeah, he was smart to stay at 160 - Spinks would have battered him.

He couldn't have beaten Bob - that fight was offered multiple times. Carlos owned 30 percent of Victor Galindez who was his sparring partner, and he wouldn't let Victor in the ring with him. I was there - reading every magazine cover to cover to and watching every fight on the television. Bob made no money at light heavyweight and was forced to fight Frazier and Ali among others to support his family and worked a full time law enforcement job to make ends meet.

Were either of them asked about the prospect on camera?

Whitaker's reaction to being asked about possibly moving up to face Roy Jones was hilarious. :Jest:

That ship has already sailed. I'll look at it, but there are a lot more guys waiting in the wings but whether or not they and/or their promoters want to fight is another story altogether.

This guy's washed up, I know an over the hill fighter when I see one. And he should really have at least 2 losses on his record, and you can make a case for a third as well then perhaps internet fans will calm down. He lost his last fight but was given a gift. One knockdown does not win a fight. He'll win his next one - no one with 5 knockouts is beating him but he is done as an elite fighter. Could have been one of the greats but he went the other way by not getting a world class trainer and it cost him. Myself and probably several people on this board could train him as good as Abel Sanchez did becaus ehe was a one dimensional come forward in a straight line murderous puncher and now his best years are in the rearview mirror and have been for several years.

My guess is the hundreds of thousands of people who cared about the first two fights would care about a third.

Whilst I do agree that he's past it he clearly won both fights with Canelo, re-scored them both recently and can't find any way you could have Alvarez winning. The Jacobs fight was legitimately very close and could have gone either way.

Never saw that one so can't comment on it, I did hear it was a very tough night's work though. How did you score it, Neil?

GGG CLEARLY Won the 1st Canelo Fight but Lost the RE in REED's Opinion...Canelo KEPT GGG On his Backfoot and Had Him FLINCHING in Anticipation of Incoming Body Shots...

Derevyanchenko Used a Canelo-GGG 2 Template in His Bout w/Golovkin...And Aside from the 1st Round Knockdown and Decision, it Worked...

Jacobs Started a Tad Tooooooooooo LATE for REED to Have Given Him the Knod Over GGG...

That's cool and obviously it's all subjective and a matter of opinion but I honestly can't see how the second fight could be scored to Canelo. As I said I scored the fight again a couple of weeks ago and I had it something like 116-112 GGG, it was clear as day imo, I just don't see where Canelo could be given seven rounds. He DID fight well and like you say his feints were effective, but he just wasn't doing enough to take the rounds. I'm pretty indifferent when it comes to GGG, good fighter but I wouldn't say I'm a big fan, but yeah even if I was to give Alvarez absolutely every single benefit of the doubt I still can't see where he picks up enough rounds to win the fight.

Would agree for the most part about GGG-Jacobs, I had GGG sneaking it by a point, the knockdown was the difference for me. Jacobs just couldn't quite make it back from the hole he found himself in in the first half of the fight.

Expect this to be Canelo's last fight with DAZN.

They (DAZN) dont really have anyone else for him to face after Callum Smith.

I mean, there's Andrade, but Canelo's not fighting Andrade.

I guess theres Munguia, but that would involve Canelo having to work with Golden Boy, so I doubt it.

He has no interest in the third Golovkin fight.

So, after he beats Smith, everyone else worth facing is with PBC.

Haymon would pay Canelo a shitload of money for a Charlo fight.
