Vitali vs Peter...Ring entrance. Brilliant stuff. Steve Bunce wailing in studio about the shitty pussycat dolls........and it's looking grim........then the entrance. George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson.........then AC/DC. Then Buffer. Then the beatdown. Floyd vs Merchant......Post Fight Interview. Two cunts tearing strips off each other. Fine by me. Ward vs That Bum It's funny. Roy was brought in to do commentary but he watched the fights better than Jim and Larry did. He was laughing at Ward but could see that shot coming too and saw it a lot faster than the Drunk and the Wifebeater did too. Ward was beyond beaten and that punch was the one world class attribute he ever had. In fact if you had to draw up a list of guys who had zero talent but had one world class attribute, Ward tops it. A left hook downstairs to rival any in history. Wlad vs Haye 12 round fight. So glad in the end it went 12 rounds. Haye called Wlad a robot but was totally outmoved and couldn't figure shit out. "I hurt my toe". Go away mate. Best 12 rounds ever? Not even close. But to see Haye fail 11 out of 12 times and flop around and collapse and the rain, and his shit ringwalk where his own fans got in his way, "Ain't no stopping us now"....actually there is. A lot of stopping you now. Great stuff. The British fight crew for Sky were beyond consolation as they saw the fight slip away round by round. "Look how relaxed he looks". Wlad vs Haye Build Up US fans will never understand how pernicious and pervasive that was. It was basically 3 years of solid build up. It was on SKY and the BBC radio and another channel called Setanta Sports where they basically would not let up for 3 years. It all kicked off when the beanie-hat wearing Haye assailed Wlad coming down some steps in a shopping mall in 2008. They had white dollybirds creaming their knickers, they had former National Front heavies turned-good-guy making all manner of FRETS and jumping in their tranny vans to go see Our Dave "smash some big Russian". Calzaghe vs Lacy Favourite Beatdown "Sports Illustrated 6 Pack of the Year and Popeyes Arms, The Cotton Picking Fighting Pride of St Petersburg Florida". LOL. Calazaghe never lost a second of the fight and the ringside screeches of Lacy's girlfriend insisting that Jeff "FIGHT" were as pathetic as they were brilliant. She could literally smell that fucking megabucks existence going down the tubes and Fatty Shaw could see it too. Seeing Shaw turn to the corner with 20 seconds left in the fight and pretend to be humanely pulling the plug made it all the better. They told the ambulance drivers to keep the engines running but they didn't say who for. Mike vs Holy Favourite Foul Allegedly, Mills Lane walked over to Tysons corner and said "You're Done".......and the dimwits in Tysons corner thought he said "You'e Won" and celebrated momentarily. Basically bit the guys ear off. Greatest foul of Are times. Byrd vs Jimmy Thunder Best Mismatch Like all the best mismatches it looked like a good match. Against men his own size, Byrd was a modern day Pep. Byrd defused that guy. Dropped, beat up and stopped him. Hi JOM. Jimmy Thunder vs Grimsley See above. 1 punch KO with the first punch thrown in the first round. Grimsley had gone the distance with Foreman previously. Quarry- Best White Fighter. Literally the truest example of a guy who was just born in the wrong era. A champ in the 20's, 30's, 40's or 50's and the early 90's. Lovely short chopping shots, neat puncher, maybe the best sub 200lb White Heavyweight of all times. I think he'd have taken Marciano. Dass dey one. Ray Robinson - Best Black Fighter. Just an awesome fighter. Couldn't have done it without the admixture of course but I don't write the rules. Perfect fighter for the era he was in. He didn't fight everyone, he fought everyone repeatedly. Great training highlight reels too. JC Chavez- Best Mexican. He's the best Mexican bar none so that's that. Khan vs Prescott- Fight Where Hype Job Got Exposed. To put things in perspective, Khan was elevated to a PPV status immediately AFTER being iced in 60 seconds by an unknown Columbian lightweight. Khan was utter hype and a very carefully ethnic deal who was progressed in a fashion that makes Cooney or Mancini look decidedly progressive. Khan had some skills but was deficient in chin and ring savvy. Chin may be forgiven, but much had been made of Khans amateur pedigree and how he had "Beaten" Kindelan in their "Rematch". Literally the dumbest Olympic medalist of all time. He only had a career because of ethno-centrism, careful management and the diminishing pool of global talent. Literally lost every big fight he had bar one and made the management of Patterson or Gamache look decidedly kamikaze by contrast.
Regards Khan, if anyone can think of a case where a guy got SPARKED in 60 seconds on free-to-air television before getting a PPV contract and a title shot 2 fights later, just let me know. Prescott finished up 31-18-0 with 6 defeats by KO and his KO ratio is 70%. And yet Khan got a PPV contract and a title shot for LOSING to this fucking guy.
KO by a body punch Hopkins - De La Hoya. Devastating! j/k I guess Jones Jr - Virgil Hill Fight that went the distance Too many to choose from. For now i'll just go with Pacquiao-Marquez Pre fight build up Mayweather - Hatton. I thought the HBO 24/7 series in particular was really entertaining. Beat down So many to pick. First one that came to mind was Chavez-Haugen. Foul Barrera slamming Hamed into the corner post. Mismatch Roy Jones Jr vs Vinny Pazienza First Round KO Tyson-Frazier White fighter Lomachenko Black fighter Tyson Mexican fighter Chavez Fight where a hype job got exposed Khan-Prescott. Leija-Bojado was another good one although it doesn't have much replay value.
Good poll, this one Entrance Hamed against Sanchez with the flying carpet Post fight interview Holy after Tyson I. It is the best because it was the worst Ko by a body punch Bob Fitsimmons against James J. Corbett back when the sport had only diminished a little bit from the golden era Fight that went the distance Holmes vs Norton was the first I thought of. Bowe vs Holy I too Pre fight build up Lewis vs Tyson Beat down Lewis vs Tyson. Hopkins vs Tito too Foul The exchange where Tyson hit Ruddock low in their rematch and lost a point and when the fight resumed, Ruddock deliberately hit Tyson low. The look on Mills Lane's face was epic. Mismatch De La Hoya vs Campas. I like those bouts where it is obvious the fight can go only one way and exactly that happens First Round KO Michael Bennt vs Tommy Morrison White fighter Vitaly Klitschko Black fighter Lennox Lewis Mexican fighter Ruben Olivares Fight where a hype job got exposed Leonard vs Duran II
Entrance None, i hate entrance Post fight interview Tyson Alexander rant after the Savarese fight Ko by a body punch Jirov against Brown Fight that went the distance Barrera morales 1 Pre fight build up Lewis vs Tyson Beat down Rj vs Hall Foul The bite was epic. As was Golota balls blasting combo against Bowe. Oldy head against Rahman was also something Mismatch Froch vs Bute First Round KO Tyson Spinks White fighter Froch and Dave Hilton:/ Black fighter Tyson and Stevenson Mexican fighter Dont really have one. Does Corrales count? If not id go with Chavez Fight where a hype job got exposed Anchodo against Barrios. Was orgasmic seeing that obnoxious little clown get a complete beat down. Looked like a poor kid that never laced them up
MIghty Mike Anchondo was a Max Boxing favourite back in the day. He was their new Canelo before there was a Canelo. They loved all that shit. Losers. By the way....not sure if he was a hype job but Pedro Pena was a major let down. He promised a lot, as did Bojado and Ponce {} De Raton.
It was the very end of the round and Bayliss was jumping in to make sure Maidana didn't follow up on his success after the bell. The question would have been answered by now if half of the forum hadn't fucked off to facebook so angry were they with the failure of more people to die so they could wring their hands even more.
Entrance: Any prime Hector Macho Camacho Post fight interview: Larry Holmes bloodying the mouth of Howard Cosell Ko by a body punch: Prudencio Cardona vs Orlando Maldonado (that was scary!) Fight that went the distance: Duran vs Leonard 1 Pre fight build up: Gomez vs Sanchez Beat down: Mosley vs Margarito Foul: Golota vs Bowe 1 Mismatch: Holmes vs Ali First Round KO: Tyson vs Spinks White fighter: Vitali Klitschko Black fighter: Felix Trinidad Jr Mexican fighter: Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. Fight where a hype job got exposed: Larry Holmes vs Gerry Cooney
Eitherways if the Prescott fight was PPV, he'd been fast-forwarded to PPV status after what, 10 fights?
I know the Earl fight was definitely ITV, that was 2007 as it was on the same night as Mayweather-Hatton and I believe the Gomez fight was on ITV as well. The Prescott fight would have been right after that if I remember correctly so I understand the confusion.
What cracked me up was that he got wasted in 60 seconds then I think he fought total no hoper Oisin Fagan, who might as well have been the Fagin from Charles Dickens, he looked as old and wizened.........he blew him out and then got a title shot!!! After being wasted!!! Then he dumped Warren but had it dressed up that he was tired of the racial booing in England. Then he was off to the USA pronto. But I will tell you, in the interests of balance, Bernard Dunne was almost as bad. That was an utter wankfest. It was beyond parody. Kiko Martinez came to town and nobody was giving him a shot. I'd seen Dunne damn near get stopped at the National Stadium by some little Ukrainian bantamweight and I knew Dunne was feeble. I give Dunne credit that he had that epic war with the Columbian {Cordoba} that got ESPN FOTY 2009. But even then he was down and nearly out having been in total control. He was being mentioned in the same breath as McCullough but Hamed or Morales would have hospitalized him, badly. It wasn't a hype job in the normal sense but it was a local thing designed to feed off the shirts-off, tits-out-for-the-nashnul-antem madness that was doing the rounds at the time. Guys would be shirtless and half-cut by the time of the anthems., roaring and moshing, "Bernirds Gone Bash Diss Lad" etc etc. My mate Tippy Walsh used to be on the phone to me and we would be in agreement........first time Bennard gets hit he's gonna fold like a LIDL deck chair. And fold he did. And the commentators would swear they'd seen nothing. "Phantom Punch.......Ali vs Liston"........one of them actually said that. The same guy started quoting Kipling........."Gunga Din, a Better Man Than I" etc...total bedlam and mullarkey as Dunne would be flopping around like a stale fish and some midget trying to kill him, and crowd gone from Gin Mode to Funeral Mode, and Dunne slobbering "Wha happend, Wha happend, izzit ovah?" Mad times.
