Golota had all the tools to win but he just couldn't keep it up. Tyson still had a lot left and his intimidation factor would make Golota wilt
The Tyson of the Bruno rematch would destroy Golota... not even close. 96 was probably the LAST year that Tyson would have been a major threat to Lewis. It's not just that Golota lacked the mental makeup... he was just too stiff for Tyson, and he had no clue whatsoever how to clinch when hurt. Tyson beats him cleanly in 96... no Golota quitting on his stool. Instead, the ref would have to jump in, cause Golota would be getting battered.
I actually think its a great fight - wish we'd seen it - but you always know golota will find a way to lose
Golota at no point was built to trouble Tyson. He was always hittable, and always froze when hurt. That makes him made in Heaven for Mike, 100/100 times. While Golota was a lot better in 96 than he was in 2000, Tyson was also a lot better in 96 than he was in 2000.
By 2000, Golota's jab was no longer due to some injury or car accident. So I think it is a different fight in 96. I still pick Tyson but I think it would've been a much better and more competitive fight in 96.
So true. Andrew was much too stiff to deal with a dynamic puncher like tyson. Even if it was late in his career (even though he was coming off some of his best performances) the way he folded like a cheap chair against a bankrupt man tyson like Brewster showed he could never deal with a half decent tyson
Golota's jab would be a non-issue. It looked great against Bowe, but Tyson is a different kettle of fish. 96 Tyson could still close the gap extremely quickly. Not nearly as quick as 86-88 Tyson, but still faster than any heavyweight. Holy knew that the only way to beat him was to smother him, tie him up, and push him off balance, and that ain't something Golota is ever gonna do. Plus, we can't live in some fantasy world where Golota is mentally tough. The fact is, he'd ALWAYS be intimated by Tyson. That wouldn't change in 96. He wasn't scared of Bowe, but he'd always be scared of Mike.
Yeah, he plain and simple was incapable of beating a Tyson/Lewis like puncher. Bowe was NOT a puncher on the level of Tyson/Lewis.
