    That's how I see it.

There's more excitement. It's like somebody throwing a spoon of sugar into a glass of old coke that lost it's fizz.

There's a bit of effervescence right now.........

Yes, those guys were not in their primes, but nobody else had yet arrived either. That's what made it a disaster era. Here is some speculation from this forum in 2007.

    Rank the HW's

Why was Chagaev ranked so high by many?

He had a good amateur record (a victory over Felix Savon, among else), he was undefeated and had beaten both Ruiz and Valuev, who at that time was undefeated. Mainly it goes to show however how empty the division was, as Chagaev was the clear-cut #2.

    2007......the mists of time!!!

I mean, what is Wlad's era?

    Barrett-Byrd-Mercer-Botha-McCline-Jefferson-Sanders

    Or

    Byrd-Peter-Thompson-Haye-Chagaev-Ibragimov etc

Listen to this.........in Wlad's wilderness period, he fought Peter, Williamson, Castillo.

Anthony Joshua won the fucking title against Charles Martin who won the title on an injury in a fight for a vacant title after Fury had been stripped after beating Wlad. :Jest: He then followed it up with wins over.........Brezeale and Molina. The dudes Wlad fought in his wilderness time were more dangerous than that :Jest:

Come on. Things are shit today they are just way more fun, as it were.

There was calm in the kingdom of Wlad. There is panic and flux in the warring Kingdoms of Fury and Friends.

True, now ask yourself what sort of attention would Dillian Whyte be getting if he'd beaten Povetkin......way more than Chagaev, a far more competent boxer, ever did.

Things have gone very skewed today. More excitement, but less actual talent.

The dude was ancient and finished and fighting for money out in fucking Chechenya for some dictator when that happened, and even then he walked onto one having beaten the shit out of Brown hence.

He took the Wlad fight on a few days notice and did better than Haye who took the fight on 5 years notice

Also goes to show how prone fans are to overrating undefeated fighters.

    True.

Though in Chagaev's case it must be remembered that the Hepatitis cut his career short. The rest of his career didn't match his abilities (not that he ever was a special talent)

He was as ancient as Brown, and aint "beating the shit out of someone before walking into something" sounds a bit to what happened to Whyte last Saturday?

Chagaev lol the guy robbed a fucking ancient Oquendo. You know you have a strong case.of nostalgiatilis when you try to praise this clown

Feel the need to restate - wlad was a negative cheating cunt, a festering tumor on the body of the sport & he should rightfully have been DQd in many if not most of his defenses. The division got better automatically the moment he fucked off

He was disgusting to watch in his second career.

Very exciting when he was 22-23.

Thing is, that young, offensive minded Wlad would likely blast guys like Wilder and AJ - neither of whom can fight a lick.

he's 50-50 against these guys. Wlad was better technically and talent wise, but he had much less resistance and (especially) heart than these 2 guys.

And, as I said before, the young offensive Wlad is a bit of a myth. He was very tepid against the few dangerous guys he faced during that period

I'm no Wlad defender, but the 23-year-old Wlad would destroy AJ.

AJ could BARELY get past a retirement home version of Wlad.

As for Beyonce, he has a puncher's chance, but short of that young Wlad would have overwhelmed his skilless ass.

Dont see it myself man, his balance was dreadful, an accident waiting to happen and one which did the first time he fought a live body who could throw hard leather at him

But he never DID get sparked, at any given moment, did he? In fact, he's never been sparked his whole fucking life.

Let's face it..........Wilder got in the ring with a big heavy man and had blood coming out of his fucking ears and I can't see the Punch that did it.

He literally looked like a Hobo that had won a shot at the title in an obscure lottery.

Against a man that old Wlad went 12 with.

    Come on.

I know he annoyed you but these preposterous post-retirement re-drawings have to end. It's like something out of Communist Russia- guys literally get airbrushed and denounced.

"All Hatton did was HOLD"..........."Wlad collapsed, I saw it"..............."Vitali died on the operating table, Post-Lewis". "Calzaghe has literally no good wins"

    Etc.

I dunno I dont really buy into the ‘young exciting’ version of Wlad. Same fighter, both cautious, basic 1-2 fighters with occasional lead left hook. One of them held on after getting tagged, then he evolved to hold on at the first signs of aggression, after realizing that getting tagged was too late to prevent himself from getting KO’d... so really just went from boring to more boring.

Wlad's prime IMO was around 2006-2013 and his best years were at the turn of the decade when he already had his cautious style but also speed a d reflexes to go with it.

The fight itself was a borefest, but the Wlad that beat Chagaev in a bout where he had prepared for Haye was perhaps his most dominant display
