He was leaping in a lot trying to sign the fight off. And anyways I am right. It's his route to greatness. If he takes it and wins {and he can't, i saw last nights cards} .........then it's Pep vs Saddler. If Loma can come back and box for 12 like he did for 6 then I think no matter what happens he can retire happy. The guys that have beaten have been much heavier on the night and he's MORE than given them an argument.
It's hard to argue that Lomachenko owes boxing a damned thing. But I'd like to see him rematch and box for 12 like he did for the final 6.
When Pep came back for the rematch with Saddler the consensus was that he was all washed out- the injuries and the first fight. He went on the attack in the rematch and never looked back. That's the test for Lomachenko now. As I say he owes boxing nothing, his resume is just great....but here's a door to greatness.
Loma's resume is not great. Thats not me hating or anything, it's simply objective fact. His two best wins are Russell Jr and Rigo. Russell Jr, very good fighter, but not a great. Rigo, is a great... At 122. Loma has a good resume, but this is what I mean. He does not have an all time great resume... at all.
Loma and Rigo BOTH fucked up by staying in the amateurs for far too long. Those guys could have had 8-10 year primes. Instead, both had to rush, and we got like 4-5 year primes outta them.
No what I mean is he's basically got under 20 fights and each one of them has been against somebody who knew how to fight. No filling. You won't find many better Sub 20 fight resumes and remember, and this is kind of forgotten, ironically- one of them was versus a 147lbr in Lopez, with whom he went the distance and gave him his toughest fight. Don't let the good be an enemy of the best.
I had it 116-112 for Lopez. A body shot toward the last half of the 11th turned it for Lopez. Loma still won the round but it stopped his momentum. Bodyshots in the 12th put the icing on the cake. I'm predicting Loma is the new Kovalev if he stays at 135. Amused at the bitching about the one scorecard. Yes it was terrible; however, the right guy won. The other two scores were acceptable. It's bitching about by how much he lost, not that he lost at this point.
Look.......scorecards have consequences. There's NO EXCUSE for getting them wrong. It's like working at a funeral home and dropping the coffin in front of the family. It doesn't matter that the guy is already dead you don't do it. You don't take a guy like Lomachenko and insult him like that. If you do.....get used to seeing more UFC and less boxing. Agreed with the rest, albeit Lomachenko loses at 135 for being too small, not a bully that got found out.
At least one division, yes. Same with Rigo. It is a legit question to ask how should we rate a fighter's performances outside his best weight class. Often we give the best of the a pass. However, both these two had too little achievement in their best division to be ranked among the very best
I agree, and the more general thrust of my argument is that greats of their era, the guys who really embellish their time {irrespective of how they stack up with the greats of yesteryear} deserve better than 119-110 or 117-111 card in a fight they really contributed to in an era where they made a lot of the running.
Lopez showed a lot of maturity and stuck to his game plan. Lomachenko probably figured Teo was going to come looking for a knockout and throwing a lot of bombs. Less experienced guy inevitably would tire, get frustrated and leave openings. Instead he fought patiently and gave his opponent less information to "download". That lead to Loma losing rounds in the process. He realized way too late he would have to create opportunities rather than wait for them. Some atrocious scorecards but deserved winner.
Ward was disappointing. He had Loma up going into the last round. Really? You have to be kidding me. On another note, I keep hearing how Loma made a bad strategic move giving up early rounds. I didn't see it that way, as I saw Loma getting outboxed, and was to wary of Lopez's power to commit. He actually had to slug it out with Lopez to have a chance and abandon his boxing because it wasn't working. He really only came on because he was down big on the scorecards. His corner did not look to happy, even after the first round.
The scorecards were highly questionable but Lopez deserved the win. Loma showed the heart of a champion the second half of the fight but it was too little, too late.
Damn Lopez vs Loma is bringing them all back like a Biden win on the 3rd. Lomachenko should go and attack somebody on the street in front of a security camera and Clogg and Sly will be in here doing a round by round.......
All the talks of a rematch are already dead. There's no rematch clause (that was team Loma's idea), and Fimo's not interested in giving Loma one. Plus, Loma doesn't seem interested in a rematch at all, and apparently plans to drop back to 130. If Loma does drop back down to 130, I'm sure TR would push to make Loma vs Shakur.
Valdez sucks. Berchelt is good, but I doubt he could beat Loma unless Loma really hits the wall. That leaves Shakur - who isn't as good as Lopez. BUT... you never know what this loss may due to Loma. He may never be the same, we'll have to see.
It could still "get good" without Loma losing to any of these guys. Plus, they can face each other. Plus, I'll remind you your take on who can and cannot beat Loma is in question these days. Regardless, what I said stands. 130 could get good because several good fighters are there with the same promoter, meaning it's likely they will face each other and we'll get to watch it.
Excellent, if unexciting win for Lopez. The slow start, but come on down the stretch is reminiscent of his first loss against Salido. Can't blame either for not wanting a rematch, but I'd also like to see them do an immediate one just for history. I didn't think Lopez would be able to be quick enough to assert his size against Loma, but he was. Loma is too good defensively so it turned into Lopez doing more, but neither landing much of significance.
Yeah, but he was doing one of the best impersonification of the tinman in the first half of the fight. Really weird and disappointing performance by loma
Its only disappointing because Loma was anointed by many as this Roy/Floyd/Whitaker level virtuoso, something he clearly never was. I never thought there was a clear separation in ability between Loma and Crawford/Inoue. I never had a problem with Loma ranking #1 P4P, but the boxing media and his legion of groupies pretended like there was a gap between him and every other guy in boxing - I didn't buy that.
I can. I reiterate, he owes us fuck all, but .............Willie Pep did it with a killer like Saddler.
It's not one sided. Fimo might be denying the rematch, but it doesn't even matter because LOMA'S NOT CALLING FOR ONE. I think Loma knew he tried to put the heat on Fimo late, and Fimo responded by kicking his ass in the final round. I don't think Loma fancies his chances in the rematch as much as his fans do, I really don't. I don't think a rematch is anywhere in Loma's mind right now. I think his focus is now on dropping back to 130. Shakur Stevenson is a more winnable matchup for him than Lopez is.
Loma PLAYED HIMSELF in Regards to the Rematch Clause... Teofimo, Being the IBF Champion, Requested One and was Declined Under the Premise "Loma Doesn't Offer Rematch Clauses"...Even in Loma DOESN'T Wish to Face Teofimo Again, it was in his BEST Interests to Have a Rematch Clause In Place, Just in Case... You Know, Like EVERY OTHER Elite Level Beltholder/Fighter Has In Place for EVERY Fight???...There's a Difference btwn Confidence and Arrogance... REED
It's that exact arrogance that turned me off from Loma and his fan base. I think Loma is a VERY VERY GOOD fighter, and extremely talented, but I never saw him as this generational Leonard/Jones/Mayweather talent that he was hyped as. He simply isn't THAT level of good, and the boxing media is now in shambles trying to process that.
