Rank 'Em... Alvarez, Canelo Beterbiev, Artur Charlo, Jermall/Jermell Crawford, Terence Estrada, Juan Francisco Fury, Tyson Garcia, Mikey Golovkin, Gennady Inoue, Naoya Joshua, Anthony Lomachenko, Vasyl Lopez, Teofimo Pacquiao, Manny Spence, Errol Taylor, Josh Usyk, Oleksandr Wilder, Deontay REED
Sorry for being a dick again but I have to ask. How can Crawford be #1 p4p when he isn't even #1 of his own division?
Easy answer - because I beleve Bud is overall the best fighter in the world, even if Spence is more accomplished at 147. Its not a firm stance though - this is not like the late 90s/early 00s when Roy was CLEARLY the best fighter in the world. Or during Floyd's prime when he was CLEARLY the best fighter in the world. Bud has no concrete standing as the P4P king - just a personal opinion. I dunno how much longer he'll remain in the spot, as he's now 33 and is bound to be slowing down soon.
Also, Ugo... i didn't put a tremendous amount of thought into the list. I thought about it for maybe 2-3 minutes then listed them. The P4P list doesn't mean as much to me as it did 10 years ago. Granted though, this crop is a lot deeper than the crop of 10 years ago. I think fuckin Khan was on P4P lists 10 years ago. This is a very talented group.
I have NO CLUE right now because the accident changed everything. I'm waiting to see if Spence is affected just like everyone else. So I have no prediction for Crawford-Spence until December.
I believe Spence will beat Garcia, but beating him isn't enough. He has to really dominate Danny, because on paper Garcia is made for him, and with all due respect to Garcia, he's a good fighter but not elite level... never has been. Same applies for Crawford - he had better destroy old man Brook.
Canelo is hard to rate. On paper he would seem an obvious #1. Went up to win the middleweight titles against a P4P fighter and then up to light heavy to win another one. Problem is we actually saw those fights and they were quite questionable with one he should have outright lost. He's definitely on the list, i just don't know where.
Canelo has the deck stacked so far in his favor that it's always hard for me to rate him top 3. To me, it just comes down to quality. I ask myself, if Crawford and Inoue were natural middleweights, would I pick Canelo to beat them without the intervention of judges? My answer is Hell no.
It's not exactly unprecedented for the star cash cow fighter to get the benefit of the doubt but somehow Alvarez is on a different level that i don't get. Oscar De La Hoya benefitted from generous judging, but he also received the short end of the stick more than once when many thought he won. Oscar was also a much bigger star than Canelo with crossover appeal.
1. CANELO - REED GETS Why Canelo's Hated; Opportunistic as Fuck (Rehydration Clauses, etc.), Beneficiary of Some Controversial Verdicts, But Fans Need to Check Their OWN BIASES Regarding Canelo, to Properly Rate Him... If You Think Canelo is 0-2 vs. GGG, You're BIASED...If You Think Canelo is 2-0 vs. GGG, You're BIASED...He Should for Sure Have 1 Additional Loss on his Record (GGG I), But Even Canelo's Harshest Critics HAD to Be Impressed w/How he Performed in the RE.. w/the Exception of Pacquaio, NO OTHER Current Fighter Worthy of Lb for Lb Consideration APPROACHES Canelo's Resume, and w/Loma LOSING Saturday Night, Canelo was the Obvious Choice for #1 in REED's Opinion... 2. BUD - Looooove Watching Bud Fight, But he's COASTING...Just as REED Could Never Bring Himself to Consider Triple G "The Best Fighter in the World Lb for Lb", REED Won't Reward Crawford's LACK of Ambition Either...And it's NOT PBC's Fault; Shawn Porter WANTED the Crawford Fight, Bud Turned it Down... 3. INOUE - If he were American and 20lbs Heavier, Inoue Might Have ALREADY Taken Over the # 1 Spot After Beating Nonito... 4. SPENCE - Could CLIMB a Spot or 2 OR Drop Off the List Entirely, Based on the Danny Fight... 5. USYK - If Not for the Pandemic He'd have Faced Chisora Already and We'd Have a Clearer Idea of his Heavyweight Future... 6. FURY - Undefeated Lineal Champion, Winner of No Fewer than 15 of 19 Rounds Shared w/THE Most Feared Heavyweight Puncher Since Mike Tyson...That HAS to Be Acknowledged, Along w/the Versatility Fury Displayed from Wilder I to Wilder II...There AREN'T 10 Better Fighters in the World than Tyson Fury... 7. TAYLOR - Josh is Holding Steady Here but Could Elevate to the VERY Top of this List w/Wins Over Ramirez, Teofimo and Crawford...Time Will Tell... 8. LOMA - Disappointing Loss, but it Was by Decision and Loma Didn't Go Out Meekly Either...Based on That, Loma Can't Go from "Probably" the Best in the World Lb for Lb to OFF the List Entirely... 9. BETERBIEV - Unifying w/Bivol Would Bump Beterbiev Up a Couple Notches, But He's Going to Need Canelo or Some Name Brand Super Middles to Advance Significantly Higher... 10. TEOFIMO - Welcome to the Lb for Lb List Kid...Make Yourself at Home; You'll Be Here for the Next Several Years... Honorable Mention: ESTRADA - Very Good Fighter but Never Cracked REED's Top 10, Personally...Estrada Assumed the Spot that Sor Rungvisai Assumed for KO'ing Chocolatito....Like Inoue, Chocolatito was an EPIC Lil' Guy WORTHY of Serious Lb for Lb Consideration...REED Isn't Sure Rungvisai/Estrada Ever Were... JERMELL CHARLO - Like it or Not, Charlo's Building a VERY Strong Case for Himself...3 Belts, 6-1, 5 KO's in Title Fights, Avenged that 1 Loss by KO...Within 3-4 Fights (Hurd, Lara, J-Rock, Castano), Charlo will have LITERALLY Cleaned Out a Deeeeeeeeeeeeeep Division...It's CRIMINAL If he's Not Top 12-15 on Most Lists... PACQUIAO - What are you Gonna Do Ol' Man???...Shit Or Get Off the Toilet...The Broner and Thurman Wins Reinserted Manny in the Top 10, But it's Been 15 Months Since Thurman...Shit Or Get Off the Toilet... TRIPLE G - Same as Pacquiao, Only WORSE...Shit Or Get Off the Toilet Ol' Man...The Derevyanchenko Fight was Over a Year Ago and GGG was Beyond Fortunate to Get the W...The Canelo Loss was Literally 25 Months Ago and Golovkin's Last CLEAR Win was Steve Rolls, 16 Months Ago... Do You BOX Anymore???... REED
Seems weird to hold it against Pacquiao or GGG for not having a fight. There was this pandemic that happened. Most of the top fighters have not fought in a long time. Only recently have top guys resumed fighting.
Yes, You Read it Correctly... Bud's WELTERWEIGHT Resume Could Be Better, But This IS His 3rd Weight Class...If You Think his ENTIRE Resume is "Crappy" You Obviously Haven't Been Paying Attention... When All Else Fails, Please Feel FREE to Post Your OWN List... REED
The Pandemic Hasn't Stopped Fights from Being Talked About, Negotiated or SIGNED Though, Has It???... Lomachenko Just Ended 14 Months of Inactivity, but we've KNOWN All of 2020 WHO He was Going to Fight and Constantly Updated on WHEN the Fight Would Take Place... Other than Conor McGregor, WHO's On Pacquiao's Radar???...Does McGregor Catapult Pacquiao to His "Rightful" Place On YOUR Lb for Lb List???...Errol Spence Will Have Endured a Life Threatening Car Accident and 2 Boxing Matches in the Span of Time Pacquiao's Been Away from the Ring... Lb for Lb Lists are FLUID... That Said, @ Least Pac PERFORMED Well in His Most Recent Showings...Triple G Can't Even Say That AND He's Been Inactive, w/NO OPPONENT On the Immediate Horizon... REED
Oh I've been paying attention. I've been a fan of Bud's since his lightweight days. But I'm not going to let that cloud my judgment. And I'm certainly not going to pit him at #2 and then pretens it's tough love because his resume could be better.
all i know is that the pound for pound best of this group is at the very top! can you name them all ?
Really surprised tou have Crawford over spence. Spence is clearly above imo Agressnwith you that canelo is the clear nb1.we all want to see him lose cause of all the bs around him, but he has by far the best resume in the game
