Thats a good one. Tarvet was a terrific counter puncher, so he would tag rocky a lot. Still, you have to figure marciano is too strong at the end
FFS if Bernard Hopkins can have Tarver doing "Swan Lake" with a single right hand to the head then what is Marciano going to do? Archie Moore was one of the strongest LH's of all time and Marciano dealt with him. I think this one ends badly for Tarver. Marciano fought and beat better guys than Antonio it is that simple.
To be honest, bhop and Marciano have absolutely nothing in common style wise. This is a harder fight that it looks at first glance for marciano. Tarver usually relish on flighting comme forward guys. Dont think he wins it, but he definitely gives hell to Marciano
Tarver lost to crybaby Glen Johnson. You think he gives fits to Rocky fucking Marciano? Lmao! It would be over inside of 6. Tarver's never felt that kind of power before. When oh when will people understand that Marciano had underrated skill and defense. The guy was not Ruslan Prodnikov.
Tell when marcano dominated a fighter as good as Tarver (i dont count the second walcott fight)? At the end of the day, i agree that marciano wins this, but it wouldn't be a walk in the park
Styles? Marciano just walks him down and batters him..........It's Roland La Starza part 2 just way easier.
La starza even the second time around gave a pretty acount of himself. And Tarver was much better than him
Tarver beat the RJ that killed himself coming down from 200lbs to 175 in one go, and he needed two goes to do it. He actually lost the first time out. Fact.
I love Roy, but Marciano would flatten Roy too. I just cannot fathom Roy going 15 rounds without getting caught. Marciano wouldn't worry about looking for one perfect shot - he'd just hit Roy anywhere until a good shot comes. There's no fighter in history below 190 who beats Rock. Heavys like Tyson, Lewis, Foreman, Ali, ect would obviously beat him. But not a guy the size of Roy.
I was a huge RJ fan at the time, but I never really believed the whole weight drain excuse. Tarver was a terrible style matchup for him, Long lanky southpaw with a great jab and solid power. And the first fight was so close, it could have gone either way
Today, I think Marciano could make 175 with the new weight rules or make 200 with the new diets without being too bulky. I think he'd rule that span. Guys like Beterbiev are getting smeared......I really think Usyk is so clunky that Rocky could get to him. Rocky takes out Tony Bellew in about 4 rounds.
Again, Was a huge RJ fan at the time, and always knew Tarver would have bee terrible for him. Hated that fight, even before the move back down to HW. And at the end of the day, excuses are excuses, we don't know for sure if the weight really affected him. In fact, in the secound fight, he looked as good as ever before getting clocked.
. Usyk is much bigger, and has enough speed and activity to befuddle Marciano. Sure Marciano might be able to walk through fire to gets to him, but it's far from a foregone conclusion, nostalgia be damned
i like how this ignorant euro claims tarver only beat a weight drained jones jr but in the same topic references the hopkins tarver fight.
Though Tall, Lanky and Good Fighting from Range, Tarver was Also AVAILABLE...Never Terribly Hard to Find... He'd Pile Up Rounds and Out-Land Marciano by a Sizable Margin...He'd Stun, Hurt and/or Drop Marciano...But He'd Slowly Get Broken Down Along the Way and STOPPED Mid to Late... It'd Be Chavez-Taylor I, Minus the Controversial Ending, Fewer Rounds... REED
Tarver was a good fighter, Roy if not coming from HW wouldn't have gotten stretched like that though.. now Rocky... he would flatten Tarver, he might get outboxed some but too intense, too tough, too strong. He would have milk duds shitting in the ring and slip it it when knocked out cold and prolly land face down in his own fecal matter and get it in his MOUTH!!
Marciano would break him down and stop him. A slight chance Tarver goes into survival mode and loses a decision.
