Canelo is gone from Golden Boy Promotions/DAZN.

Now a free agent. Apparently targeting a Caleb Plant fight in December, which I presume would be Fox PPV.

No, he's a free agent because Golden Boy also says so...

Alvarez a FA, released from Golden Boy contract

"After many days of negotiations, representatives for Canelo Alvarez and Golden Boy Promotions have reached an agreement to release the four-time champion."

I'm guessing Golden Boy hasn't been able to fill its part of their deal (because of the Corona) which allows Canelo to walk away

When does Kingry's contract end? Cause when it does, he probably walks away too.

"Whichever direction Alvarez next heads, it will be on his own terms. No such clause exists which would allow DAZN and Golden Boy to simply match his best offer in order to retain his services on its platform, as Alvarez is a true network and promotional free agent at this point,"

The words of ole buddy Jake via The Scene.

So that's that, Neil. Nothin further Fishnets and DAZN can do.

This is great news for the sport. NOBODY is fucking watching DAZN! Made no sense for the sport's biggest attraction to be stuck on a platform no one watches. I'm sure Canelo and his team came to realize this, along w/not being paid what they were promised.

This now opens the door for Canelo-Charlo sometime next year, though I'm sure Jermall would have to move up. Canelo's days at 160 are over.

But hey, call me crazy, but I don't consider Canelo a lock over Plant. I think Caleb has a VERY LEGIT chance of beating him.

If Canelo does beat Plant, then Canelo-Charlo is a Fox PPV event that I think will easily exceed 1 mil buys.

This is basically the death knell for DAZN in boxing. It's only a matter of time before they pull the plug on their boxing operations, because they're just not moving the needle. AJ isn't gonna generate enough interest to move the needle as far as subs go.

Guys like Haney, Ortiz, and Garcia will eventually realize that the only way to enhance their profile is to fight on ESPN/Fox/Showtime.

Before this happened, I heard DAZN was making it tough for Canelo & Golden Boy. They would only honor the contract if Canelo fought elite opponents. Golden Boy presented fights with other champions like Billy Joe Saunders and DAZN said no dice. They wanted Canelo to fight GGG a third time and acted like they had no interest in any other fight.

Fuck DAZN. I am glad they will drown in debt and disappear.

I'm finding it EXTREMELY unlikely that Canelo-Plant happens on 12/19. I don't believe it.

By time it's finalized, you're talking about less than a month out. That's not enough time to promote a Canelo fight.

And if you're Fox/Haymon, you're asking people to pay for a big PPV two weeks following a big PPV.

No way in Hell does that make business sense.

I do think Plant will be next, but more likely we're looking at like February/March IMO.

I am saying what was in the story (on fightnews a while back.) That was one example they gave but said DAZN turned down fights with other champions because they weren't elite.

Speaking of the Golden Coke Head, now there's talks of him making a comeback against Maidana.

    LOL.

Goldie is desperate and so is DAZN.

the problem for dazn was they couldnt pay alvarez what they were contractually obligated. 35+ mill or some shit for fights with no fans.

nonethless i read today that hearn is offering alvarez fights against callum smith or john ryder, hardly elite opponents.

Just on the selling end, Plant is gonna be easier to market as a Canelo opponent than Smith.

Plant is a good lookin white guy. He has charisma and can talk trash, and he has a very sad backstory the networks can push.

It's hard to sell that goofy lookin oaf Callum Smith.

Purely in terms of boxing, Canelo would be BETTER OFF going with Smith - he would eat Smith up.

Plant's style is a problem for Canelo. I actually give Canelo A LOT of credit if he fights Plant after being off more than a year.

    GGG Was the Problem...

    He Didn't Want to Go STRAIGHT to a 3rd Bout w/Canelo w/Out a Tune-Up...A Tune-Up Which Would've Cost DAZN Anywhere from $10-$15mil Just for GGG's Salary...

Motherfucker Made $15mil for the Steve Rolls Fight..

But Yeah, DAZN's Definitely Drowning in Debt...

He doesn't have any big wins outside of Uzcat, but remember, I was like the only one on the forum who picked Caleb to win that fight.

He was a big underdog - in the boxing media, and on all the forums.

I called it then that he was gonna school Uzcat, and I'm calling it now that he's a live threat to upset Ginger.

If DAZN is looking at its boxing future, they have three young stars - Haney, Ortiz, and Garcia.

Ryan's gonna walk eventually and come to PBC or Arum - I'm 1000% sure. Ryan doesn't like Oscar, and Canelo is his mentor. Plus, he's gonna realize that he has to be seen by ESPN/Fox in order to become a megastar.

Ortiz and Haney probably eventually walk too.

DAZN's a Mickey Mouse Outfit and Not Equipped for the Level of Stardom Ryan Garcia Could Potentially Achieve...

& Like You Said, Between Canelo (Reynoso) & the Fact There's ALREADY Issues btwn Ry and Golden Boy, REED Would Fully Expect him to Be OUT the Instant his Contract Ceases...

Vergil Ortiz is a WEIRD One...For Some Reason, Jose Ramirez is Verg's "Favorite Fighter", Something he Parrots @ Every Given Opportunity...He's w/Robert Garcia, ala, Ramirez Soooooooo it's Not Much of a Stretch to See Verg Eventually Being a Top Rank Fighter...

Still STRANGE that of ALL the Fighters in the World, Jose Ramirez is his "Favorite"...

I think Vergil and Ramirez are very close friends, thats the reason.

Maybe he'll want revenge after Taylor whips his friend's ass.

good pick. plant has skill im just skeptical how tough he is. it will take more than a guy like plant to topple alvarez on the cards. whoever beats him via decision will need multiple knockdowns
